The Switchback is a way bigger tire, reported as measuring over 50mm in 
many cases. A more direct comparison would be Babyshoe Pass.  If you can 
fit Switchbacks, its a pretty dreamy tire, but if you want more of a 
classic 42, Parimoto is great.

Maybe worth mentioning that it does still have canti studs as well as disc 
tabs, like those early Surly Karate Monkeys, so you've got options 
depending on your parts bin resources are.

Mario, I haven't ridden the Wavie bars but I have ridden similar 
medium-sweep bars, and I have ridden both the Towel Racks and the Billie.  
If you're looking for a bar with multiple hand positions, get a Billie or 
an Albatross and set them up with a longer stem so the area forward of the 
brake levers is your 'aero' or 'on the hoods' position and the grip area 
behind the brake lever is more you're upright/relaxed position.

I haven't ridden anything as long as a brevet on an BIllie/Albatross, but I 
think its got enough hand positions that it would be totally possible.

Hello all, thanks for the interest.  I actually bought this second hand 
from another list member who hired Walt to do the conversion.  I can't 
speak to the exact amount, but I believe it was in the neighborhood of a 
couple hundred bucks.  No paint, this frame is just rattle-canned on the 
disc mounts.  

William P, the vertical piece added between the chainstays is a brace, 
stiffens up that area where the brake is.  Very common on disc brake bikes.

Atlantis fork is probably a no-go, I imagine you'd have a hard time finding 
a builder willing to do that for you, but Walt checked the tubing spec on 
the fork of Ol' Clem Smith here, and determined it to be of sufficient wall 
thickness to support a disc-mount.

I'll add a data point for a bad handling setup.  I put on clydesdale fork 
on a (mid-eighties?) Schwinn Sierra that had some slack, early MTB angles, 
I don't know how slack, but that thing was a floppy mess.  Tolerable and 
not really a huge deal once you got used to it unloaded, but with any 
considerable weight it was really lousy.  I had been waiting for an 
appropriately sized frame with a steeper HT angle to fall into my lap, but 
I sold it before that happened.  For big grocery hauls, I prefer my BOB 
trailer.
