I'd been contemplating all through fall/winter on how to best convert my 65cm Clem H to a kid hauler come spring. Well, spring has finally arrived and our son hits 9 months soon. Once the weather really breaks I hope to get him out for some rides but until then I'm still working out some kinks.
I initially narrowed down my selection to a Yepp Mini front seat to start with and a rear rack for other cargo (alternatively Bobike, if I remember correctly, but a LBS stocks Yepp and seemed a great choice after doing a bit of researching and checking them out there in person.) But then a friend recently gave me a Thule Ride-A-Long rear they had received as a gift but didn't actually work with their existing bikes due to frame design, fit, and cable routing so they found an alternate and had this one sitting around unused. The Ride-A-Long looks like a terrific seat but turns out the wide spread of the Clem H seatstays interferes with the "legs" of the seat (the original fully socketed H seatlug... not sure if the new ball & socket and Chev lugs now used on smaller Clems would cause the same issue since they join the seatube with a narrower junction.) The seat installs via two parallel steel legs inserted into a locking base that clamps around the seattube. Turns out the width of the legs just isn't wide enough to clear the Clem H stays. It installs fine on a couple other frames and I already test rode on my single speed, just without the precious cargo in tow. Cheapest and easiest solution is just set one of those up in the interim but I guess this post is meant as both a PSA for anyone considering the same seat and also a query on how others have set their Clem up for baby hauling? I've previously discussed with and/or seen pics of some using a Yepp Maxi rear with rack but wondering what else has worked well for others on a Clem?
