would guess that swapping the guard for a bigger ring would work just fine.

Should be very straightforward, especially if you have a riv silver crank with
the more exposed bolt. I think you should just be able to swap the chainguard
for a new chainring, adjust the derailler limit screw to allow it swing out
further and you'd be good to go.
