I recently replaced my Ergon grips on my Surly Open Bar with the ESI Extra
Chunky grips. They're great and actually feel better on my hands than the
Ergons. Next time I mount up the Albatross bars I'll likely use these. You
could probably cut a groove in them if you're using BE shifters with
Agreed on the hard, slippery feel, even glove-free. I resolved the issue by
applying two light coats of shellac, then rubbed 'em down a couple of times
with a rag doused in denatured alcohol. Thinned out the shellac
appreciably, but still sealed 'em up a bit, which yielded a much better

I have the Ergon Biokork GP1 grips on my Alba-equipped Hunq,

classic-looking, but it has the cork vibe going for it. The grips are very
durable and super comfy for my hands. I never liked the fact that glued-on cork

I like the cork grips but once shellacked they're a bit too slippery with
winter gloves. I use two layers of 'cork' bar tape with a layer of cloth
wrapped tightly over the top to make my own grips.

Hi. I like the feel (and look) of the older Brooks grips, like these:

I can't help but notice, however, that the price seems to have about

Another vote for cork. I am, however, fairly new to Albas having started
with them only back in October. Still I've logged hundreds of miles
commuting and camping since then and find them to be quite comfortable.

For folks using Albatross bars, and I guess Boscos, what grips are you

I have cork on all three bikes with Alba bars. I can't say enough good
things about them, and if it matters, I get compliments on their appearance

I'm all for Ergons, both on Albatrosses, Boscos, and Bullmooses! : )
I'll send photos when I get a chance.
Trade-off is no bar-end shifters, but with Ergons, thumbshifters are very nice.

Cork grips for me -- small diameter grips don't feel right with
swept-bar bars. Wrap the front bends with tape if you want the hand
positions (excluding the brake-lever-clamp-between-the fingers,
because the cork and tape are different diameters).
