I've been in Brad's shop - it is refreshing compared to many SA shops.
Best thing I can say about Brad, he gave me curb-service wheel truing one
day when I had my daughter in s. Austin for 90 minutes with a trainer.

This coming week will be a bit insane with SXSW going on. Lots of traffic
and crowds. Plenty of good riding however outside of the downtown circus.
For Bobish shops:

The Peddler
CycleEast (already mentioned)
Eastside Pedal Pushers
Bicycle Sport Shop (major dealer, but has some Bobish stuff and cool
mechanics/staff)

When in South Austin:

BikeAlot (easily the best bike shop in South Austin and Brad is a master of
Rivish/Bobish builds).

Enjoy Austin.

A trip to Austin rings without Hut's onion rings?

If you are here on a friday, there is a good group of folks who show up for
https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/coffeeoutsideatx/ . The location
changes every week, look for the most recent post to get the weeks location.

[RBW] Re: Austin Tx cycling and Bobish shops

2018-03-08 Thread Kyle Brooks
I was in Austin last summer - took my Bike Friday with me and had a great
time. It's a very bike-friendly city. Probably the most notable bike shop
in town is Mellow Johnny's, which is at least partly owned by
he-who-must-not-be-named. There is a pretty nice multi-use (bike and hike)
trail that runs along both banks of the Colorado River -- a lot of it is
gravelly, but a road bike will handle it fine, especially a Riv-ish type of
bike - one could spend the better part of a day exploring that. There are
also bike lanes all over the city. I enjoyed riding up to the capitol
building and seeing that, and up to the University of Texas. I visited the
LBJ Presidential Library while I was there. Took my bike everywhere. Lots
of great places to eat. Whole damn city smells like barbeque.

Posted a bit on The Retrogrouch Blog, along with some
pictures: http://bikeretrogrouch.blogspot.com/2017/06/retrogrouch-in-texas.html

Might want to hunt down Art Link if you have CR access. Though he shut
down his shop and retired, his home is a bike museum, and everything he has
is for sale.
