I think you are misunderstanding what I am talking about, Steve. If you take a needle, and try to poke it through a wad of cotton, it can be tough to pierce through the wad. So, in a similar way, maybe the teeth of the dog couldn't pass through the weave of the wool sock Patrick was wearing.

By measure of mental and physiological reaction I find a rampaging dog (if of adequate size) nearly matches a potential oncoming vehicle hit. Cars don't continue to maraud after they knock you down. Learned to squirt my water bottle, attempting to get the stream into their mouth. Has worked for
