It's a stretch (about 23 miles each way), so I usually do it only about
twice a week. However, it's a really pretty ride; even when the weather's
against me, I still have an enjoyable commute. Which is more than I can
say about your wife's daily trek. Ugh. Can't imagine driving from Tysons
Kevin, that is a hike. My wife works for Deloitte in Tysons and gets to battle
traffic on 495 from Silver Spring. My commute is not as long however I do ride
along a section of stream that is stocked with Rainbow and Brown Trout by
Maryland Game and Inland Fisheries, which adds a little bonus.
Very cool Kevin, that's a healthy distance and definitely the most
enjoyable way to get from Mt Vernon to Tysons I've heard of! :) I hadn't
connected the fact that the W runs so close to Tysons and connects w/
Gallows before.
I live near the MVT/4Mile Run intersection and take the MVT north
Tony - I may have the only truly enjoyable commute in all of northern
Virginia: I pick up the Mount Vernon trail about a mile from my house and
take that to the Four Mile Run trail (which intersects the MVT just before
National Airport), then ride that to the beginning of the W, take the
W to
Great story Dave, I can picture that to! :)
Kevin what is your route to go from Mount Vernon to Tysons?

My commute this morning was uphill and into the wind from Mount Vernon to
Tysons Corner. It was brutal but, boy, what a great ride home later that
afternoon: downhill and a 15-20 mph tailwind virtually the whole way.
Didn't know a Hunqapillar could go that fast.

On Friday, February 26,
Jesus, that had me laughing just envisioning that. I pretty much had to low
crawl my way under that tree this afternoon. Took my back to my days in the
Army for a second.

Once I was riding after a storm in Ellicott City, and a tree was across the
road. It looked high enough to ride under so as I approached I went into a
tuck with my adam's apple placed gently on the bar tops, face looking down
at the pavement. Not smart.
I barely passed under the limb.

Yes, the weather report is looking great for Sunday so a friend and I are
planning to spend the day out riding.

Yesterday I was coasting downhill in Columbia, Maryland and a headwind hit
so hard I felt like I was gonna coast to a stop.
Just before that the bike was getting slapped around from a sideways wind.
But it is supposed to get up to 60F this weekend. Yeah!

I actually ended up crawling under and then pulling the bike behind me. And
then had to play limbo while crossing the bridge. It added a little excitement
to my daily route, so I'm not complaining.

The wind was fierce today... I was sucking wind (literally) both ways and
generally felt pretty worn out. Wind is the part of the forecast I pay the
least attention to but days like today will make me rethink that!
Did you have to shoulder your (great looking) XOXO over that monster or was
Philip, it's on part of the Northwest Branch trail heading towards Adelphi, MD.
It's my daily route to College Park. About 2 hours later when I was heading
home a crew had cleaned it all up. With the tornado warnings we had the other
night I'm sure stuff is down all over the place.

Barkin' mad, lad! There's a whole stoppage of xylem and phloem that makes
the sap in my veins freeze up. Extra adventure always welcome!
I had a similar unexpected "gate" on one of my recent rides. Not as
impressive in size at that behemoth though.
With abandon,
Patrick
