Next Riv ride... I suggest everyone wear matching sweat suits. I love that the train in the video Patrick linked to can accommodate so many bikes. Someone needs to show this to the folks at Amtrak. --Andy On Monday, September 5, 2011 6:33:16 AM UTC-7, Mike wrote: A fun an interesting video with Rivish content--Brooks saddles, Pletscher racks, Rivish bike fitting and fashion. [RBW] Re: Great American Bike Tour 1975
Ha! Loved it. My Dad had one of those JPC bikes. Hung in the rafters for years until my friends and I transitioned from our BMX phase to our Road bike phase. It didn't take long after getting our first 10 speed to discover his old bike was a _real_ racing machine. It had down-tube shifters, 12 speeds, toe clips, quick releases, and I think contrary to the film no (or maybe one) brake lever extension. All it needed was to get rid of that horrible disk brake. That thing must have weighed 5 lbs. It took a couple more summers before we realized it was no racing machine. We turned on it like a lover betrayed. :-) -Allan On Monday, September 5, 2011 6:33:16 AM UTC-7, Mike wrote: A fun an interesting video with Rivish content--Brooks saddles, Pletscher racks, Rivish bike fitting and fashion. Way I wouldn't go by the foreman method of bike fit . unless you like a really cramped position. which back then was a good fit . LoL :) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. I liked the music, typical 70s film music that nobody ever bought or listened but Hollywood loved to use for cheesy movies. From the bike fit section I tried the forearm (saddle to handle bars) measure on the Hillborne and came up way short, about four inches, barely reached the stem. Interesting thing, I've been thinking of trying a shorter stem. MIght be something to that. I've read a zillion different ways to fit a bike. Is the way I have it comfortable or optimal or am I just used to it, I dunno. That has to be fake..no way they made it with normal clothing, heavy steel bikes, and no helmets! On Sep 5, 10:24 am, Khalid Mateen krm2...@gmail.com wrote: Thanks for sharing. I like watching videos of the seventies. I get a nostagic feeling from looking at the haircuts, the way video screens were actually shown back then and how nice the people were then. It is kind of disappointing that JC Penny does not promote something like that. Wow! A total nostalgic trip down memory lane for me.I thought it was interesting also with the white cotton 'shorty shorts' you'd think they were bicycling somewhere to play tennis. No helmets, OMG how unsafe, what could they have been thinking..85% of them should have had head injuries!?! I was beginning to think I was imagining things and started feeling like an alien until..I went out riding in my cotton cap, leather gloves, MUSA shorts and sport shoes then I saw a 'real cyclist' wearing an all matching aero spandex one piece, clip in shoes, aero helmet complete with the tail fin look and those groovy (probably prescription) full coverage sunglasses. This video helped me to remember a less complicated time. Re: [RBW] Re: Great American Bike Tour 1975
I was in full Eddy hero worship mode back then. I still wear regular shorts, but cycling shoes/pedals, jerseys and hats. No dam' gloves, helmet, glasses, tight pants. Even more nostalgic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kP1KxPjh4RM (I swear I saw Terry Jones in that video ...) On Mon, Sep 5, 2011 at 10:04 PM, charlie cl_v...@hotmail.com wrote: Wow!
