[RBW] Re: Help choosing a bike
I think a 19 inch bike is supposed to fit a person about 5'7 tp 5'11 with an inseem of around 29-31.My PBH is about the same, and I've got a 57 Homer Hilsen. Not sure if this helps or not though. I would love to buy him a Rivendell, but that is just not in the budget. So I am looking for suggestion for a used bike that I could pick up that would be well suited for this ride. I am eyeing a local 1984 Specialized Rockhopper that is 19 inch model. My son- in laws PBH 81.28 cm, would a 19 inch mountain bike be a good fit for him? What LHT size would be best for him? [RBW] Re: Help choosing a bike
the original Rock Hopper is a great steel frame. A buddy has the first one that came to Texas, and he has been riding it ever since. [RBW] Re: Help choosing a bike
Not sure i can size based on that info, i think as a MTB it would be fine, but keep in mind that CO/Gap is just a bike-path. There's very little climbing (almost none) and the roughest section is on the CO where it's just rutted out from rain. Therefore a more upright riding position is more beneficial that a hunched over one, so if you get a MTB, save some time to work on the seating position on the frame and focus on comfort over manuevarability. Remember you are talking about a lot of miles in a day, of course if he's young he may be able to tough it out. Otherwise i think a Rockhopper if it fits will work out fine, plenty of tire volume. Might be short of carrying capacity, but if you have 3-4 bikes you can spread out the luggage if neccessarry. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: Help choosing a bike
The main thing I can help with is our experience up sizing a bike that's too small via Riv handlebars (either Bosco or Albatross). My wife is on a too small Trek until we can get her a Riv that fits, and she loves her Bosco bars. While I was waiting on my Riv, I used Albatross bars on the same bike. THey really make a world of difference. My wife's PBH is 83 cm and the Trek is 18-19 MTB. She could go a lot bigger, so I'd imagine 19 would work well even for a shorter PBH? Have fun and enjoy!
