[RBW] Re: Hubshiners? UPDATE!

2010-03-12 Thread montana_cyclist
The ones I used in the 50s and 60s were narrow and allowed a lot of
the shiny hub to show.

So, help me understand these things. Why on earth would anyone use

shining your hubs (as if that really mattered). But, then again, in
use they hide the hub and thus you can't see the shine anyway. Do
people with hubshiners remove them for special occasions so they can
actually experience the blinding bling of their hubs or do they keep
the hub shiner on at all times like those people who cover their
furniture with clear vinyl so that the couch stays nice and clean?

[RBW] Re: Hubshiners? UPDATE!

2010-03-11 Thread Angus
It is well known that the French Constructeurs used goat lard on
their
hubshiners. I wouldn't want to tempt the cycling gods by using
something non-French-approved like Obenauf's.

Goat lard is probably cheaper that Obernauf's...round here one can get
the entire goat for $25

Weren't these standard on Campy-equipped bikes for Paris Roubaix in
the 60s? One flaque de boue and the Vicenza splendora was storia

I don't know Jim, Obenauf's has always been the choice leather
hubshiner treatment in The Shire.
