[RBW] Re: Marginally OT
Thanks for the pics and report! I went and met Mike and saw the shop when I was visiting my family back in Massachusetts last summer, and he is just a nice guy that obviously loves what he does. I've been a framebuilding fanboy for a long time, and have recently begun scheming how to learn the skills for myself. I think if I can save up the money, one of his classes will be my next major bike purchase. Wow. That is spectacular! A.N.T. Bike Mike, frame building (torches, mills, jigs, etc.), and a new bike project as well. Nicely done, on several levels. Re: RE: [RBW] Re: Marginally OT
Tom - congratulations! That is an amazing bike, and an amazing experience (we talked about it a little when you visited for Grant's visit). Very impressive. It must be thrilling to ride a bike you made yourself. Thanks for all the different angle picturesJoanPS - I share your enthusiasm for Hetres. Got my first flat in over 2 years/3,000 miles about 2 weeks ago. Their versatility is outstanding. On 10/16/12, Allingham II, Thomas Jthomas.alling...@skadden.com wrote:It was fantastic. Mike is a great teacher, and a master builder, and a great guy, too. I wasn’t particularly gifted at welding, but he walks you carefully through the process, and it’s a fair statement to say that I built the frame (with indispensable help from Mike). A couple of times when I burned through a tube at the joint, he simply saddles up the torch and repairs the hole so it barely showed, and was invisible (to me, anyway) after filing. It’s truly a soup to nuts experience – in the A.N.T Bike and Camp set on my stream, you can see a pic of the pile of tubes that became my bike, and a lot of pics of steps along the way.The cost is high ($3,000 for the week, including great lunches!), but in my mind totally worth it, and if you want to keep building, Mike is extremely generous with post-class support. And, of course, you end up with your very own custom A.N.T. bike! From: rbw-owners-bunch@googlegroups.com [mailto:rbw-owners-bunch@googlegroups.com]On Behalf Of ZackSent: Tuesday, October 16, 2012 10:36 AMTo: rbw-owners-bunch@googlegroups.comSubject: [RBW] Re: Marginally OTIt's beautiful.Would love to hear more about the experience of building the frame too!-- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. To view this discussion on the web visit https://groups.google.com/d/msg/rbw-owners-bunch/-/GYNg5k1Rd8sJ.To post to this group, send email to rbw-owners-bunch@googlegroups.com.To unsubscribe from this group, send email to rbw-owners-bunch+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com.For more options, visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/rbw-owners-bunch?hl=en.--To ensure compliance with Treasury Department regulations, we advise you that, unless otherwise expressly indicated, any federal tax advice contained in this message was not intended or written to be used, and cannot be used, for the purpose of (i) avoiding tax-related penalties under the Internal Revenue Code or applicable state or local tax law provisions or (ii) promoting, marketing or recommending to another party any tax-related matters addressed herein. This email (and any attachments thereto) is intended only for use by the addressee(s) named herein and may contain legally privileged and/or confidential information. I think it's a helluva deal and a fantastic looking bike as well. You not only have a bike you built yourself but a weeks worth of time with a master of the trade. Hang a value on that.
