That was my first thought. Try holding the housing where it enters the stops with one hand while turning the bars with the other and see if the noise goes away. On Fri, Jul 25, 2014 at 9:24 AM, Bill Lindsay tapebu...@gmail.com wrote: FWIW it is also quite common to get a creaking sound from

The FSA headset we use is a really, really good value--far nicer than 90 percent of the headsets available thru the '70s, '80s, '90s, and everything since. I can't recall a single problem with one--the creaker below is the first anything I've heard, and it's possible that all it needs is

The service life of a headset can be considerable - I've got close to 40,000kn on a Shimano 105. Serviced every year or so with new bearings. I'd imagine there's years of life left in your headset. A service might be a good idea, IanA. On Thursday, July 24, 2014 9:18:54 PM UTC-6, lungimsam

Perhaps I am just lucky, but have had only one HS failure in 35years of riding. My 1988 racing bike still has the original Chorus HS. When I replaced the original HS in a 1984 Trek 620 (Sturmey Archer?) I went with Cane Creek. Their 1 HS is well made and very nice looking. Trouble free for

lungimsam, what you are describing sounds to me like a bar/stem interface creak, it's quite common. . Headsets , especially like the FSA, can last a very long time . What are your bars and stem ? On Thursday, July 24, 2014 11:18:54 PM UTC-4, lungimsam wrote: Don't know what model, but

Glad the fix was so easy. All too often we over-worry these things. FWIW, the no-longer-made Ultegra headset on my Atlantis went 9 or 10 years, with only occassional attention. I changed to the Tange roller / ball headset while doing some other fussing about. It just seemed like time, after
