[RBW] Re: New Cheviot Day

2017-06-05 Thread adam leibow
thanks again for the nice words, everybody. the 50mm big bens fit
comfortably. Will told me he had them on his with fenders, but there is
definitely some finagling involved. I just measured them with the caliper
and it came in at 46mm, slightly narrower than claimed.

I rode the bike to work today. It rides very nice and I have a feeling i'm
going to miss the upright position when I ride my other bikes.

I have the same color Cheviot in a 55 but mine is "junked up" with front
and rear racks, fenders, and a kick stand. Makes me want to go lean and
clean on the bike (but I won't - the Honjo fenders cost a fortune to buy
and install).

thanks for the comments - this green color is amazing. i was excited to see
how it would look with the cream & natural colors. i agree & think it looks

Re: [RBW] Re: New Cheviot build shakedown ride

2017-02-20 Thread René Sterental
I had those brake levers in my Betty a few years ago, with the same
handlebar. Had a front Paul Racer and a rear Silver brake. Found that when
I needed to brake hard, like on a steep downhill, the levers would flex and
I couldn't stop the bike. Switching to Paul reverse brake levers fixed
that. Not sure what was going on, or if they were the wrong levers for
those brakes. I liked that handlebar a lot, like a mini-Bosco, but
eventually settled on the Ahearne bar.

I came to find out the iPad has a feature called Orientation Lock which
basically locks the image from rotating when the screen is rotated. So in a
pinch this may be the bushman's way of dealing with EXIF.

I have a SWorks Roubaix SL4 with the CG-R post. It's supposed to compensate for
a stiffer frame and according to Specialized add comfort. The biggest attribute
I found this post does is due to its, longer than normal, offset allows sliding
the saddle further back. For comfort I look at the tires. On that bike I run
the largest tire I could fit and my current choice is the Conti GP 4000S II
28mm. On 17mm ID rims like the HED C2 it measures a whopping 31mm. It's scary
when looked at the fork crown but it fits as long as the wheel is radially
true. This and latex tubes make for a lower rolling resistance tire and 75/85
or 70/85psi make for a supple ride.

anything with them yet but when I decide to I know it couldn't be any easier.
That said, I don't claim to be knowledgeable about hubs so I may have missed
something. But certainly no complaints after 1.5 years on them.
Of course any Compass tire will have very low rolling resistance and it's
smart to have built in room to grow (just in case). I just ordered some
snowqualmie tires for the Chevy-ut and then I need to figure out the
fender-brake combo that will make it all work. I saw another guys on here had a
similar build so I will have to copy what he did.
The snakeskin fenders greatly look awesome on any bike. They are bike-bling

[RBW] Re: New Cheviot build shakedown ride

2017-02-06 Thread panog
Thanks. I dont anticipate going to 42s yet. Most of my time is spent on
paved roads or packed dirt trails, so mostly on 32s and 35s, maybe
occasionally on 38s. I specked the bike for 42s+fenders to have the
flexibility in the future if the need develops.

I looked briefly on the Gran Cru for another project I was doing but could
not find enough long term reviews about them. The one I found indicated
issues with the seals on that particular unit. However, one review does not
define a product. Have you ever had to change the bearings on them? Much
riding in the rain?

Re: [RBW] Re: New Cheviot

2016-12-15 Thread Ed Fausto
Hi Jeremy,
I previously transfered my GP1 Biokork from my Brompton to my Albatross
equipped Atlantis. The grips performed well during my TransAm tour
together with my "Thinny Riding Gloves - Goat leather". The thinny goat
leather gloves grips the GP1 so well that it helped me reduce my grip
pressure on the handlebar. The other day, when I was riding my wife's
Betty equipped with Miesha's Portuguese Tree Cork Grips I experienced my
hand slipping during bumps on the rode.

This made me decide to purchased 2 pairs of Ergon GC1 for my other Riv
bikes.

Wow. Stunning! Beautiful build, and I love those Paul brakes. I love that
color.

2014-12-12 Thread Kellie Stapleton
Thanks Patrick. I gave my Hillborne to my daughter; she got the Rivendell bug.
But she deserves a great bike; she rode from Santa Cruz to New Orleans last
Jan. I suspect she's got some more trips up her sleeve! But I love the Cheviot
(especially this color). It feels a little zippier than the Hilborne. Maybe my
imagination.

Full body shot on the way. You must have enlarged the photo and if you did
you can see 1 bike hanging and 3 on the floor in the reflection. We like
bikes!
