Fred, you aren't too too far from me (I am in Harrisburg). Are you by any chance doing the Lancaster covered bridge ride in August? Within a few weeks here in Vancouver, B.C. I came across three Bleriots ( one was a 57 cm that was finally sold at a shop after being stored for awhile ) and one Bleriot had a white unicrown disc fork on it which looked, well, very odd and out of place. Also a girl was riding a Hilsen with Honjo fenders - although she was going the opposite direction on a MUP. I also purchased a Romulus frame locally and built it up. Re: [RBW] Re: Rivendell sighting what are the odds?
Nice to know, Hugh. If you happen to be down from Sunland with your bike, let me know. I am pretty easy to ride with. I have a family with all girls and one small boy dog (Louie). None of them ride except Louie (sits in his bed in the Wald basket and comfortably stays leashed to the basket). My training/exercise rides are usually 15 - 20 miles at an average 12 mph (Del Mar Heights is steep hill country). If I go longer for a day ride, I like to have some goal in mind like riding to a campground or park destination, cooking some lunch, and reading a book for a while. Having a Samuel Hillborne is changing things up, though. I take a lot more short sprints through the neighborhood and up to Del Mar Highlands to shop in street clothes and even flip flops. Ralphs and CVS let me take Sam in with me and I use the Wald basket for my shopping cart. It is like being a kid again. Jump on the bike and go. Thanks for your reply, Tom On Friday, July 12, 2013 9:26:26 PM UTC-7, hsmitham wrote: Hi Tom, Really like the build it looks awesome! [RBW] Re: Rivendell sighting what are the odds?
Well, I'm no mathematician, but I used to watch Numb3ers... It would seem on a straight percentage of bikes analysis, given the large number of bicycles and the small percentage of Riv's in the count, the odds would be pretty low. But, you have to factor in the percentage of RBW riders who Go Anywhere (variable 1) and Seek Fun (variable 2). Also, there's a strong tendency for MCRB's tend to stop at the edge of smooth pavement, strongly filtering out those bicycles which cannot use appropriate and versatile tire sizes . That would tend to lead RBW folks to similar locations, and since it's so easy to recognize one another from the bugs in our teeth (due to constant smiling) and the eye-catching color hues of our frames, I'd have to say that your chances of interacting with a Rivendell Rider on a given ride are reasonably high. - Jim / cyclofiend.com -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. I just happened to see a mustached Hilsen ride by as I went the opposite way on M-89 in Michigan yesterday. In the past I have run across 2 Hillbornes, a Quickbeam and a Ramboulet, not too bad for a county of 300K in the midwest.
