[RBW] Re: Smokey with a chance of Scattered Showers

2018-06-22 Thread Tony DeFilippo
I agree with Erl that shot of the flower in focus with the bike just visible
but out of focus is great!

I'll be interested in your expanded thoughts of the compass knobbies with your
bike packing rig. The 650b version is tempting to try out on my Saluki even
though I have very little off pavement riding time right now.

[RBW] Re: Smokey with a chance of Scattered Showers

2018-06-21 Thread Deacon Patrick
Thanks, Erl! I’ve ridden the Steilacooms all through winter on my Quickbeam, so
know them well and thought at the time I want to try bikepacking with them.
However, I wanted to baseline my experience with fixed gear bikepacking first,
riding 2.1” Thunderburt LiteSkins. I’ve done that, so time to play with the
Steilacooms.

Austin, I’d estimate the weight of the Thunderburts and tubes is roughly
150g-200g more per wheel. Shirt: I abhore sunscreen, so wear light weight
cotton long sleeves. I sweat and/or get them and my bandana wet, and I stay
fairly cool in the breeze cycling neturally generates (except climbing uphill
on a still or gentle up-hill breeze day — those are HOT! by my wimpy standards.
Grin.).

With abandon,
Patrick

Thanks Patrick. Talking less weight on the rim with the Steliacoms--what
were you running that you're comparing them to?

And long sleeves? It's almost July! You must be at a high elevation.
