Michael:

Thanks for the update. It sounds like the San Marcos is still in the area
but maybe in hiding. Another insurance tip is to check your coverage to
see if it's full replacement value or cost less depreciation.

[RBW] Re: Stolen rivs in seattle

2016-04-06 Thread Michael Ullmer
I wanted to post a big thank you to everyone on the list who responded and
sent kind messages along. It felt great to have a community of people who
knew and appreciated what it meant to have TWO Rivs stolen. A LOT of time
was spent putting these together, piece by piece, and to people like my
insurance company they were just two "bikes."

As many of you saw, the Hillborne was recovered thanks to Aarons Bicycle
Repair, less a Mark's Rack, Wald Basket and a Tubus Nova Low-rider rack
that the thieves literally ripped off (pieces of the struts are still
attached to the front eyelets). It also sustained quite a bit of paint
damage and a dent on the right chainstay just off the bottom bracket shell.

The San Marcos was actually seen a few hours after my Hillborne was
recovered only a couple blocks from my house. The rider was confronted by
someone who knew it was stolen after looking at Bike Index. The rider
claimed that he "tried" to get it back to the owner (me) by posting it on
CL, but he definitely did not. The rider got confrontational and took off
and I haven't heard anything about it since. I'm still hoping though, it
was a great build that I was pumped to have ready for this summer's riding.

The insurance company is going to cover a portion of the loss which is
great. Not sure when that's all going to come through, but I'm in no rush.
Not sure what I'll replace it with yet, an Ocean Air Rambler sounds very
tempting.

If I learned anything from this, make sure you write down serial numbers!
If you have more time, take pictures and make a spreadsheet with details
about your builds.

Again, thanks everyone for your support!
