Re: [RBW] Re: Vertical bike storage (again)

2021-04-14 Thread Patrick Moore
For 6 months after my divorce I lived in a 1 bedroom apartment, and used
the dining area to store my bikes. 2X4 bolted to wall, J hooks in 2X4,
hanging bikes alternated up/down. I got 5 along a small wall, it couldn't
have been much more than 6-7 feet, with the 6th, the commuter, propped up
against the adjacent wall. It all worked out very well.

Aside: The kitchen had a large adjacent utility closet, large enough for
full-size washer and dryer. I installed pegboard, work table, and there was
just enough room on one end for a large metal shelf. All hidden neatly away
by folding doors. OTOH, I had to use the living room rug for major repairs.
6 months later, thank God, I bought a house with a 2-car garage for me
alone.

David,

Thank you for the info. I've often thought of putting together a compact
version of your storage rack. You've given me the impetus to push the
project forward!

In the picture, the rear wheels are all at about the same point, so you
can see the difference in wheel bases. The Cheviot is, not surprisingly,
 definitely the longest single bike.

2 x 6 actually, with a sheet of 1/4" plywood cut up for the bumper boards.
I used the larger size Park hooks for more lee way with the bulkier
rim/tire combinations, such as the Bombadil.
