Re: [RBW] Re: What are you hauling?

2016-12-15 Thread Tony DeFilippo
Hey Ken,

Yeah the Albatross to Noodle transfer on the Saluki took about 2 months of
adjusting, riding, adjusting, riding... really struggled with getting the
brakes to feel strong enough with the drop levers but I finally got it
dialed in (and added cross levers). Didn't help that during part of that
time I was getting an extended test ride on Jeff L's Surly Troll w/
hydraulic disk brakes which definitely messed with my expectations on
proper stopping power. But I'm happy with the way the Saluki is set up now
and finally wrapped up the bars a couple weeks ago.

The Bombadil doesn't get loaded up as much, since mid-spring time or so
it's mostly been setup for singletrack riding. But it would certainly take
the racks and load just as well as the Saluki. It has been Nitto dirt
drops all year but given the Saluki upright to drops conversion I decided
to try out the Jones H Loop bars on the Bomba... just hooked it up last
night actually and need to do some fine tuning before I report back on that
one. Should be fun.

The fact that these bikes can be made to be anything is a blessing and a
curse for someone like me who is constantly tinkering with the bikes. On
the good side they can be made to do just about ANYTHING pretty darn well,
on the bad side I'm always left wondering 'what if I changed xyz...' :)
 Good problems to have.

Tony

Re: [RBW] Re: What are you hauling?

2016-12-15 Thread Tony DeFilippo
The guys! The rear dyno actually goes internal via the down tube, through
the bottom bracket and out the base of the seat tube. Then it goes inside
the fender to the light. Both holes I drilled prior to getting frame re
coated and both are through 'lug windows'... I thought about whether to do
it for a couple of months but I'm glad I did, never liked the exterior
routing on other bikes and full dyno lighting is so pleasant.

The bike lock around the Sackville mounting bracket worked really well and
was a first for me on this ride. Usually it lives at work on the rack or
inside the rear bag but it got bumped by the groceries.

Funny you ask about riding in or not today and tomorrow as I was just
mulling it over now... I'm going to drive today at least. I'm getting over
a cold that had me home from work yesterday and while I feel better I'm
going to pass at least for today.
