MacAusland's lap blankets are a fave of mine. I have two, one from the mill
itself, another from a sheep farm near Charlottesville, VA (Juniper Moon
farm). I even use them in the hot humid summers here.
Juniper Moon farm blankets are in limited supply, but MacAusland has a
direct site
Yes, I second MacAusland's! I have one of those as well.
If you want a super dense wool (heavy, weight not warmth), then the
Pendleton or Filson is what you want. If you want a looser, (lighter)
scratchier blanket, then the others are good.

Oh, oh, can I speak up?
Two weeks ago I scored a couple wool blankets for $10/ea at a garage sale.

condition because she, well, her parents likely paid a mint and couldn't

I have bought Army surplus wool blankets on eBay...perhaps not Pendleton or
Hudson Bay quality, but hey, from sheep's wool, nevertheless.
In fact the Boreal Shirt made by Lester River Bushcraft / Empire Canvas is
made from (new) Army blankets, and I think the wool is of exceptional
quality.
Filson.

You have to know what you are looking for first .
1. What of grade of wool ? You can get merino grade to just wool
that are downright harsh .
2. Exact size you are looking for. Queen/King/etc is not enough to know as
every manufacturer varies on what that is.
3. color/pattern and
Goat Mohair http://www.thermohair.com/Queen-Size-Blanket_p_15.html from
Canada. Very plush and warm. Somewhat more dear than Pendleton which is
also a good choice.
