I am an infrequent poster here, but I must say that I find this list to be an invaluable resource. I think I learn something new every day through this forum; I have very little to offer from a bike-tech perspective but I do typically chime in when someone posts about the various physical aches and pains which might arise when riding--I stick with my strengths and try to add information which hopefully helps some folks out :-) By way of a preview, I will be posting about an upcoming trip the Atlantis and I will be going on throughout the west of Ireland. . . there will be pics, of course, and pints ;-) Cheers! lyle On 30 April 2013 11:27, Andy Smitty Schmidt 54ca...@gmail.com wrote: I think the number of active posters to this lis is fine... the traffic volume is manageable. Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I enjoy this virtual ride we're sharing every day. Most of the more extreme delays in passing posts through and unmoderating folks occurred last year. My mother-in-law was fighting cancer, my wife was with her 24/7 for the last couple months and she succumbed the day before Christmas, 2012. I don't think I overtly stated any of that here, though I did allude to it in apologies to folks whose posts and requests were excessively neglected. I'm not trolling for sympathy - it's life. But, during that time, though I was posting very little to the group and would lose several days or weeks to other priorities, this group helped breathe a little fresh air into things. Sometimes the most wonderful thing in the world is to think about something simple, beautiful and normal. Cycling and bikes have been there at several difficult periods of my life, patiently waited for me to catch up and nudged me along again. So, the true thanks goes to all of you who take a little time out of each day to share the good they've found, the knowledge they've gained, or the chuckle they've had. I do the web thing for this group. Mostly because I cannot stand to look at email, in fact I don't even know which email is set up for this group. I should probably figure that out though. I know I have lost threads or posts because of it, which isn't good. I just like forum formats better than email. This group is awesome though and the subject is right up my alley. It's a daily read for me, but I don't post as often as I would like. Another thing I should change. I visit and use this group like an internet forum and have never used the e-mail function. If the majority of the people access this group via e-mail (something that never even crossed my mind as an option), then I guess it's a good way to go. I'm just used to manually visiting a forum and scrolling thru topics so that's the bias thru which I view Google groups. Heck, maybe e-mail access is what defines an Internet group. Re: [RBW] Re: Not too many people actively posting on this site for such a big amount of Rivs released to the wild over the years.
No, I have updated. You may be thinking of my 1998 iMac which was finally unplugged about three months ago. I bought an iBook in 2005, which I still have, and a MacBook Pro a couple of years ago. I tote a laptop to work for writing reports. I've got my iPad, too, which I use at home for surfing the web and for travel. My 1986 Mac 512Ke lived until just a few years ago, after passing from my hands to the son of my college roommate to his aunt to a convent where it published church bulletins or something. But I have the same cell phone I have had for at least 10 years. It's held together with tape and the numbers are worn off the keypad. It can receive and send text messages although I don't know how to send a text. I'm a cell phone Luddite! Hmm... I have a 1996 All-Rounder, a mid-90s Ritchey, a 1990 Volvo 240- and I live in a 1908 house. I wonder if maybe I don't like new stuff? Re: [RBW] Re: Not too many people actively posting on this site for such a big amount of Rivs released to the wild over the years.
It is what it is... And it's pretty good! René — Sent from Mailbox for iPhone On Sun, Apr 28, 2013 at 10:01 PM, dougP dougpn...@cox.net wrote: To us on the list, these facts are surprising. But true. There is another guy in town that also owns an Atlantis, I run into him maybe once a year. The first time I stopped him, I was expecting a degree of friendliness based on common ownership of a steel bike in a carbonic world. He didn't seem to think it interesting that 2 guys in the same town would have the same niche bike. When we see each other, he'll chat for a moment but then must be going. I've mentioned our So Cal Riv group but he has no interest. His bike always has panniers he told me he has no car, so that's his wheels. But as to any association with other Riv owners, he seems baffled by the idea. And he's probably not alone. dougP On Sunday, April 28, 2013 8:58:22 PM UTC-7, Jim Thill - Hiawatha Cyclery wrote: Based on my experience, the RBW universe is pretty diverse. Some Riv owners don't know or care who Grant Petersen is. Many don't know or care what Riv models exist in addition to whichever one they own. Believe it or not, a few Riv owners have no interest in meeting other Riv owners or in being part of anything that resembles an owners' club. Some just bought a Riv because it looked nice, and didn't spend any time delving into the back story or the nitty gritty enough to know there's an actual Riv cult. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group.
