Inexplicably, Steve joined me for a second ride, this one a sub-30 hour-outing,
with more LCG ridge climbing, and a wee bit of snow. We went in at the end of
Craig's Road, popped over a ridge, made camp, and went joy riding for the rest
of the day and a good chunk of the next before packing up
Just came back from visiting family there. Always cool to see the bikes
there, and the interesting add-ons and problem solvers people come up with
to make a bike work the way they want..
Took lotsa pics I hope to have up tonight on Flikr and saw some stuff I
thought you all would get a kick out
Awesome pictures Patrick. Your backyard/riding territory is gold long
after the rush.

Thanks, Matt. You're right, possibly more than you know. The Fall colors
are delayed 1-2 weeks due to warm temps and lots of rain, plus we were
within 10 miles of Cripple Creek, a gold rush (and now gambling) town.

Hi all,
The purging continues.
Up for sale:

I have the small saddlesack and have used it for my workday commute for
over 6 months, carrying my 13'' macbook.
I wrap the macbook in a thin neoprene cover for a little protection from my
lunch and whatnot. With this cover, it *just* fits in the small saddlesack
because the 13'' is wider
This one will be difficult to miss. So close, yet so little time. I may
sneak away from the work bench for an hour or two and go to Tour de Fat.
Have fun all.
Ride safe,

Very nice photos, and the captions weren't bad, either. I must say that I
have to think hard about whether California or Colorado contains the most
beautiful landscapes in the nation -- even though I love NM's own peculiar
beauties.

I was so impressed with the bikes there.
I just realized that I didn't get a pic of what I thought were the
prettiest bikes there to be seen - The Guangzhou made bikes that look like
old Raleigh three speeds. They had cassettes, though. But were those pretty
black, dark green, and dark
Michael: thanks for the photos -- very interesting indeed. To my own eyes,
the very striking thing was the total absence of Flying Pigeons -- those
imitations cranked out by the 10s of millions of the WWI-era British design
and that used to be like ants in pre-capitalist China; the English rod
Great pictures and fascinating observations. Thank you, Michael.

A Pannier or Handlebar bag is not a foolproof way by any means. The first
day I rode in with my MacBook in the rear pannier with the protective
neoprene zip bag Apple sells and the Styrofoam pad they ship them with,
produced a blemish in the screen caused by an edge or an end of the
I'm going to be doing one of these rides with you in a couple of falls.
I'll be on sabbatical in a couple of years and the plan is to ride in
Colorado as much as I can before it's too snowy. I'm homesick! Thailand
is great but the sky in those pics kills me!

Just to ease your homesickness Kip, that's the bluest sky I've had for a
trip in months. I had to actually think as I packed up my tent It's dry,
so no need to set it up at home to dry out. How weird! Sardonic grin.

This past trip my experiment with carrying my food on the front Mark's rack
worked out wonderfully. I put the food (relatively small amount per day, as
it's one meal a day of butter, beef jerky, and dried potatoes) into the
bear-bag and wrap that in a 3'x3' tarp which then doubles as a ground
Had the shop fix it and align the derailer hanger. $20 well spent. Started
building it up today, got it built enough to sit on it and coast down the
driveway. My first Riv ride! More to come. Thanks to all.

A pretty amazing time out in the hills today! My legs are shot, and
that's with taking the Topanga Canyon bail out option. A full 12 hour
day door to door! As always, the route was great, bikes were perfect,
but it's the company that makes the ride!
And the first round of PTPIH:

I saw some of those old looking, Guangzhou made bikes that looked like
Raleigh 3 speeds. They were gorgeous, and my favorite bikes that I saw over
there. The matching fenders are awesome.
