[RBW] Re: 52 rambouillet taking 26" wheels...can it be converted to 650b?

I have a 650b wheelset with Nifty Swiftys and a 50cm Ram. Do you want
me to try to mount them?

Cheers!

[RBW] Re: 52 rambouillet taking 26" wheels...can it be converted to 650b?

2011-06-24 Thread William
Most likely no it wont. 650B rims are a full inch larger in
diameter. 584 vs 559mm

Imagine the fattest 26 inch tire that Ram will accept. Subtract a
half-inch off of that width. That will be the fattest 650B tire that
you could take. The Riv geometry chart for the 52cm Ram says that
26x1.3 is the widest recommended. That means you'd have to be able to
find a 650Bx19 or something like that.

To convert a 26" bike to 650B the best candidate is a bike that starts
with clearance for super fat tires to start with. For example, if you
want to take PariMotos at ~38mm, you'd need a frame that fits 26x2.0
to start with. Even bigger if you wanted to fit Hetres.
