I think you are misunderstanding what I am talking about, Steve. If you take a needle, and try to poke it through a wad of cotton, it can be tough to pierce through the wad. By measure of mental and physiological reaction I find a rampaging dog (if of adequate size) nearly matches a potential oncoming vehicle hit. Cars don't continue to maraud after they knock you down. Learned to squirt my water bottle, attempting to get the stream into their mouth. Has worked for me. After your ride it looks like a few water bottle squirts would help Paul's bike too.
