Yeah, that is one seriously long head tube. The fork I have will not work.
Not even close. There is also Chauncey Matthews (Matthew Chauncey?) not
sure if he is near you. And Garth mentioned Franklin in Ill. they build,
repair, etc. Or...buy a smaller one and have a builder swap the
steerer--probably still a lot cheaper than full custom. I would think
Franklin would do something like that.

Thanks Garth! I've never heard of himbut I like that he's so close...

Mark, I'll measure the steerer requirements when I get to the shop but it's
huge! Riv huge! This is the project:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BV6LlKbhEfu/?taken-by=yellowhausbicycles

I'm also going to stop at a local community bike shop to see if there are
any forks that might match my requirementsalthough I feel like it's a
needle in a haystack.

I wish Riv still had those unpainted forks!! We used those for a couple of
customers and I should have bought a couple in each size while I had the
chance

Meaning, there seems to be no fork-only option on eBay at the moment--all
the "vintage" 1" are unicrown or suspension. (!) If this size worked, you
might ask the seller to ship only the fork/headset. If you need something
near the other end, the fork I may have looks about 155mm steerer, classic
cast crown, guessing it will accommodate the tire you want.

[RBW] Re: Custom fork builder suggestion

2017-06-29 Thread 'Mark in Beacon' via RBW Owners Bunch
Are there other specifics--ie, rake, rack mounts, etc? I ask because I've
purchased used forks for projects with good success. Depending on your
steerer tube length requirement, I may even have one shortly. Much cheaper
route. Otherwise, I think you will probably be looking at $250 bare
minimum, and up from there. Tom Matchak has done a number of custom forks,
if I recall. Jeff Lyon as well, though I think mostly batch jobs. With
forks, I would make certain of the builder's experience level before
worrying about price.

Right now nothing on eBay with a fork crown like you want, but there is
this, if you need a longish one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/vintage-mountain-frame-single-speed-mountain-bike-frame-/192227450794?hash=item2cc1a61faa:g:YDYAAOSw3h1ZTrph

If you need rack mounts, you can have a builder put them exactly where you
want--could probably even re-rake it.

I got lucky with my 26" project. I had a NOS Riv 700c fork, unpainted. Just
moved the canti posts, and now has tons of clearance for fat 26" tires.

I was in the same situation with my vintage mtb, I ended up getting a
non-lugged fork from Bruce Gordon Cycles. At first, it really bothered me
that it didn't match and I felt the ride suffered. But, now I've moved on
(and finally bought a Rivendell).

I would love to find a 26" rivendell fork for my bike though!

I Have an original Hunqapillar fork (700c) version that will be for sale

to probably have the steer cut to size, threaded and then have the canti
posts moved to where you need too for a 26" wheel. Send me a message if you
are interested.
