2014-01-24 Thread Ryan
I agree with the others that it looks pretty nice as is... a little
beausage doesn't hurt. What about Cyclart ? Greg Reichle is the fellow's
name, I think. Looks like they have different pricing levels of
restoration depending on what you plan to do with the bike. See
http://www.cyclart.com/newindex.html

When I was 20 I lusted after the Bianchi w full record; about $525 in 1973
at Gooch's in Winnipeg. I also considered one of the Raleigh models; I
think it was the MKII with straigh-gauge Reynolds 531 in the main tubes at
a tick under $200. Ended up with a Peugeot PX-10 for $325, which was not a
bad second fiddle.I've had 2 of these bikes stolen and I have the 3rd one
bought in 1982 (excavated from the aforesaid Gooch's basement) that I now
run as a single-speed. It's hard not to like that Reynolds frame and those
sexy Nervex lugs...although on mine they're a bit rough looking. As is the
rest of the paint on it. If I won a lottery, I'd indulge myself and have it
repainted and redecalled. But I'm OK with the war wounds, and functionally,
it's perfect with no rust or dings and it rides great.

Anyway, enough of my story...glad you got the bike of your dreams and I
wish you many happy miles.

Regards. Ryan in Winnipeg

Re: [RBW] Re: Finally chased down and purchased the bike (frame) I wanted when I was 16

2014-01-23 Thread Mark Guglielmana
Peter,

I have a medical condition. It's malignant. It's called engineeritis, I
can't leave well enough alone.

David,

Oh, I thought this was the Rivendale site, on second look this is the RONA
site (yes, I have the t-shirt). BTW, I always misspell it when typing the
URL, but Google corrects me. The problem is therefore with Google Groups,
not me.

Nick,

Glad you didn't buy it before me! I've seen the models with the Capella
lugs. Although the idea of having a rarer frame is interesting, the Nervex
lugs are sexy, whereas the Capella lugs are, well, not as. Just my opinion
(and money).

Congrats! I was watching that frame - didn't intend to buy it though. It
should build up into something lovely!

2014-01-23 Thread cyclotourist
Internationals are GREAT bikes. Probably the only vintage bike I would go
out of my way to get.

BTW, I can't see original pics either, but can see the second posting in
Chrome.

And where is this Rivendale of which you speak :-)

Cheers,
David

Why paint it? It looks great like it is. I had an international for years
and loved it I still regret selling it.

Patrick,

Not sure why it's not showing, it does for me. I tried on a different
computer in case it was using a local copy. Permissions?

Congrats! The picture didn't show, but you're sure to have a grand time
setting it up, then every lane you ride will have a bit of memory lane.

With abandon,
