[RBW] Re: Heads up for a very rare sighting opportunity. KIT, at the SFR 200k tomorrow!
I was there in Bicycle Heaven kit with my buddy Ara. We had a great day out on the bike. Unfortunately a fellow SFR rider took a turn way too fast in front of us, lost control and went over the bars hard. He messed up his left shoulder pretty badly, destroyed his helmet, and yet was alert enough to say "dammit, why did I take that turn so fast? Stupid!" We waited around for the ambulance, got word to the club volunteers and otherwise did our duty. The volunteer working the phone indicated that if helping out our fellow rider pushed us outside the time limit, they would make sure I got credit anyhow. I didn't need that extra latitude and got in about an hour under the limit. Including riding to and from the start/finish from Ara's rental house, we'd logged 136 miles. I saw several Rivs, and I did see Esteban proudly sporting his San Diego colors. Is was a spectacular day weather-wise. Sunny and maybe 70 degrees at times with very little wind. I felt the beginnings of a cramp in my calf at about mile 50, but I was able to keep it in check and had no actual cramping issues, which was good. In my handlebar bag I carried a half-dozen breakfast sausages and a few slices of sharp cheddar. I had a slice of vegetarian quiche at the Bovine Bakery, and drank a bunch of Nuun electrolyte tabs in maybe 5 small water bottles. I had a cream laden coffee at the Bovine as well, a dark chocolate bar, and an RC Cola at Nicasio for the home stretch. I was with Ryan on this one! Saw the subject and was trying to figure out why they would be displaying a prop car at a rando event. I'm fascinated by both however. the cue sheet does say the turnaround is "Tomales Pt Trailhead". I've never taken the Pierce Point fork, I've only gone out to the Lighthouse, but yes those miles to the Lighthouse, out on that otherworldly peninsula do feel like longer than normal miles. Is the turn-around all the way to the end of the road/start of the hiking trail trail, at Pierce Point Ranch? Pt Reyes Station out Pierce Point Road always feels much longer than it is. Funny, I guess the very end is called Tomales Point -- I've always thought of the very end as Pierce Point. Thanks Ryan, now I'm going to have that electronica 80s theme song and "THE HOFF" stuck in my head.
