Oh boy, I have a 60cm frame on the way. This is going to be my first
Rivendell and I'm excited.

Nice! Thanks. I just replaced all the white zip ties with orange. But that
looks better.

Love the Cheviot! I recently discovered a way to discreetly secure the
dyno wiring. You might look at this instead of zip ties.

[RBW] Re: I finally bought a Rivendell -- Cheviot!

2015-10-31 Thread Ryan Ray
So i just got through with an interaction with Soma folks over these fenders.
It went as well as you would expect. Apparently Free Range and the mechanic who
worked on mine both did it wrong and the installation is to blame not the
fenders. The example installation on their own blog post was also incorrect but
it didnt count because they didnt have a rack installed yet. "I guess its too
much to ask our customers to have commin sense" was in the discussion as well.
I pretty much hate my brand new Soma now and wish i could return the whole damn
thing.

[RBW] Re: I finally bought a Rivendell -- Cheviot!

2015-10-24 Thread Lynne Cooney
No shit. Who on earth decided that was a good idea? I rode down a curb last
night and the front fender scraped. Not cool. I'm taking them to Aaron's
and getting them moved. I'll stick a Rat City Bike Shop sticker over the
hole and be done with it.

Note to self: GIVE UP on the metal fenders. I should have stuck to my guns
& demanded SKGs. I didn't because, hey, they were nice, they didn't rattle,
and they were already on the bike.

I had a particularly horrific experience with a Trek bike several years ago
(the "Belleville" BSO). Noisiest fenders ever, and apparently most of them
arrived dented.

[RBW] Re: I finally bought a Rivendell -- Cheviot!

2015-10-24 Thread Lynne Cooney
They did not pull the fenders off. They are still on the bike. I pretty
much hate the fenders. Every pebble, bit of gravel, grain of sand makes a
very irritating noise. To date, the metal fenders on my 40 year old Raleigh
Sports and the metal fenders on my Retrovelo are the only ones I have not
replaced with plastic. These will probably go too.
