Jim,
Out of curiosity, at what pressure where you riding the Compass 35s? That
seems to make a difference for flatting.

No experience with Jack Browns of either hue, but have put in several
thousand miles on GB Cypres ELs, and about a thousand miles on Compass
Stampede Pass ELs. Both these tires are 32mm +/-. I also ride a range of
Compass tires in larger sizes on other bikes: Barlows, Snoqs, RTPs, (all
ELs)
The $20 tires weren't as smooth a ride as the quiet Compass tires. They
made noise because of their tread. And if I went through a puddle or sand,
and there were many last Saturday in New Jersey and New York, the new tires
then slightly scraped against the bottom of the tang on the little front
Are your Son’s JB green or blue?

Well, funny you should ask. I just completed a St. Louis to New York tour
with my son. My son was riding a Leo Roadini with Jack Browns. I was riding
a Soma San Marcos with Compass 35s.
We rode on all types of roads, but obviously, the same roads. Smooth
pavement, rough pavement, gravel,
Excel Sports has some interesting Panaracers,
Gravel Kings Race EVO gravel, all available in 32 and 28.

I can't believe how much premium tires cost these days. Most LBSs have the
upper-end Conti and Michelin tires - some are over CAD$100 each.
I'm lucky I don't ride crazy mileage - I couldn't afford to!

Thanks for the feedback.
To me the Browns look cheerful and Rivvy, so might look good on my bike but
I definitely like all the GB/Compass tires I have ridden, except for their
700 x 28mm tire.
But the tire prices are going sky high and I am shocked that the Browns are
68$ a piece. That's 10$
I rode the JBGs before getting a set of Gen. 1 Barlow Passes. Jack Browns
are good tires - the Compass offerings have led people to get supple-snotty
and poo poo the JBs, but I think they are great tires with a lovely ride.
32-33mm is about perfect for road riding, IMO.

I like the Cypres the best, but enjoy the ride on the JBs and didn't notice
too much of a difference.
All of my Cypres tires stretched considerably over time - luckily I had
enough room to accolade the embiggening.
I had a set of Stampede pass that were noticeably undersized which may have
