Indeed... I've been watching this with interest. I'm recently forced off bikes (ribs/clavicle/lung as a result of a crash) for a while, so I guess I don't really have the urgency to get into another bike (there's plenty mental & emotional urgency, just no bodily wherewithal). I think those reasons I cited for getting this for myself are valid, only not necessarily timely. RoadieRyan, am I correct in understanding there are unpurchased Bleriots out there somewhere? I sure do like building my wheels & bikes, but a complete Bleriot is certainly considerable, and of course personalizable. [RBW] Re: Maybe WTB: 59 Bleriot?
I snagged one of the Riv demos as they were clearing off the floor, and have zero regrets. I do occasionally carry some loads that are probably inappropriate for the Bleriot, but so far without consequence, and it rides great. I can't say enough nice things about the bike -- I've used it on single track in the mountains of North Carolina, and ride it daily on the streets of Atlanta, and it does what it should. I am working the other end of your issue, and getting an Atlantis for heavier stuff (and just because I've always wanted one.) The Bleriot will remain my daily commuter, because it's the right bike for the job, and I don't want to lock the Atlantis up at the outdoor rack downtown; it's hard enough to do with the Bleriot. I am using the platform rack on the front w/ the Mark's rack, and it has exponentially increased the utility of an already exceptionally useful bicycle. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: Maybe WTB: 59 Bleriot?
Thanks for the replies; they are strengthening my resolve. My completely illogical resolve. I promised myself that I was done buying bikes after I built my Roadeo last December (2009 was a profound year for bikes for me). I have everything I need (I don't have a cross bike, actually), and my apartment is overrun by bikes! Alas, the creeping desires have crept. The thought of a lighter, plusher daily bike, and all those fringe benefits of another 650B (at what would seem to be a great price for what it is) - a backup rando, a travel bike, etc. Then I remembered that I like my LHT a lot! But it is heavy, and I do carry it up & down my stairs every day. Not to mention the LHT is rather more replaceable than a Bleriot, [insert- diety] forbid! Then again, I really like the feel of my 650B AHH. I would very much prefer to ride something that felt like that here in the city every day. And why not do so, right? Life is for the living of it, and mine has significant 2-wheeled co-existence... may as well fully enjoy it! This daily Bleriot will see some real action! Chicago streets, Chicago winter, not-concrete/asphalt road surfaces, the occasional trailer, whatever dancing a bunch of bikes get into when they're crammed onto bike racks. The Surly takes it all in stride, so I'd want the Bleriot to do the same. I won't abuse it, but I will use it! Now I just have to find it (the impending agony of ebay, blech). Having said that, is anyone on the fence about their personal 59cm Bleriot? Thanks for indulging me On May 10, 7:43 am, Ray Shine wrote: > Terry -- I agree with Steve. [RBW] Re: Maybe WTB: 59 Bleriot?
I ride a 58cm LHT as my daily bike here in Chicago, and I ride a 58cm 650B Hilsen, set up for brevets and meandering. There's always a "downer" moment after I spend a weekend on long rides on the AHH and the smoothness there, when getting back on the LHT and the less- smoothness there. (Don't get me wrong, the Surly is an excellent bike for my needs, so I'm confused at my thinking and emotions.) I've *often* thought how great it would be to just ride the Hilsen day in/ day out. But that would be unwise where I ride -- note that I'm too chicken to commute daily on my QB. My ebay "saved search" brought the 59cm Bleriot mentioned above to my attention, and my gears are turning. Could I really seriously consider a functional migration from my LHT to a Bleriot? Not only that, but the Bleriot would serve as an ideal "backup" to my AHH. Given a long-term relationship with a Bleriot, I'd even consider S&S couplers so I could easily get elsewhere for brevets, or have a bike when I visit family, etc. To not have to carry my LHT up & down 4 flights of stairs every day, carrying a Bleriot instead. I think that would be another improvement (would it?). I see one Bleriot on my commute sort of occasionally, and one (and the same?) parks not far from where I work. The potential availability of a 59 Bleriot is - how shall I say it? - troubling? Enticing. On May 8, 6:58 am, Johnny Alien wrote: > That whole deal was a shame. That whole deal was a shame. Especially since the Bleriot is such a nice bike. I got mine way after it was discontinued and while I got a deal on it I still didn't get the price that the discount places were offering. Those were long gone. If I recall when I got one you had a great deal on one but it was a size larger than I needed. Either way as soon as they were discontinued and they started drying up the price started to rise again and now that they are completely gone I would think they may have actually raised in value a bit. I will be watching this one to see where it ends up. On May 8, 12:17 am, Jim Thill - Hiawatha Cyclery wrote: > Funny, I couldn't give the damned things away when they were still > available. I'm probably going to sell mine. I'm not far away from a custom being built and as much as I like the Bleriot my custom will be a 650b allrounder and I think I'll be getting a little redundant. I wanted to or figured I'd sell the complete bike but I might consider parting it out. What the Hey, the parts would go on something else I don't need but would like to try for awhile. I've always said I wouldn't sell it but sometimes you just have to suck it up and say goodbye. But then again, sometimes you just can't. I'm weak. What can I say?
