[RBW] Re: My Nitto S-83 doesnt fit Brooks rails

2013-10-12 Thread gep71154
I think if Terry people could see the violence required to bend the rails
in the first place, they might not quibble about a little gentle urging to
make it slide into the post. Often, when the Brits are involved, there is
no "plug and play."

2013-10-12 Thread Eric Platt
I've had to ease Brooks saddles into seatposts in the past. Not just
Nitto. I use Terry saddles and try to be a bit more careful with the setup
there. Possibly because the Cro-Mo rails are hollow? They are sturdy as
I've never had a problem with a rail bending and have banged them around
getting them on a Thomson seatpost.

If I remember correctly, all my Brookses were 1m off or so, and I just let
the clamps guide the rails in as I tightened.

I once saw an instruction seat for a Terry saddle that was real persnickety
in warning the consumer that the rails had to fit perfectly into the clamp.
Both fore and aft as well as side to side. They seem to want their saddles
to get mounted on a clamp that fits their saddles just so.

[RBW] Re: My Nitto S-83 doesnt fit Brooks rails

2013-10-11 Thread grant
Over the years (but not in the last ten years) we've gotten back half a
dozen Brookses that didn't fit Nittos, and it was never the Nitto, they
were always off by low single-digit millimeters, and always fell into place
with a little forcing at the beginning. Although I speak their language
better, when it comes to QC and precision, I'd vote for a forged Japanese
part over a hand-fitted British one...generally.

I'm just imagining the wealth of owning at least 3 Titanium railed Brooks
saddles.

Did you try 3 of 5? 3 of 20? 3 of 36,000? The mountains of wealth!

Anyway, like others I run a B17 standard on an S-83, both bought from Riv,
no rail width issue.

[RBW] Re: My Nitto S-83 doesnt fit Brooks rails

2013-10-11 Thread [email protected]
I've had this trouble w/ a couple of Brooks saddles. If you remove the seat
post and hold it in your lap or on a table, it is a bit easier to slowly
tighten the bolt and gently force the rails to fit the seat post. I
tighten the seat post bolt first in the middle, and then at both ends of
the rails. Once done, there's no problem mounting the saddle on a seat post.

Hope this helps,

John

[RBW] Re: My Nitto S-83 doesnt fit Brooks rails

2013-10-09 Thread Jeremy Till
The problem isn't so much the S-83 as the B17's--they are commonly a little
bit narrow and are drawn apart as you tighten the clamp. No biggie.

[RBW] Re: My Nitto S-83 doesnt fit Brooks rails

2013-10-09 Thread Corwin
Hi Mike -

I have a Berthoud Galibier ti saddle. I was also confused when the rails
seemed to be too narrow to fit on my Nitto S83. I contacted Boulder
Bicycle who sold me the saddle and was told that I needed to gently
persuade the rails into the grooves of the seat post.

I think that could be your problem as well.

Good luck!

Corwin
