Chris Kulczycki, founder and owner of Velo-Orange, essentially called
Jan Heine of Bicycle Quarterly a Nazi simply because he was born in
Germany. I am fifth-generation American, but by ancestry am half-
German, have a German last name, and I also speak some German, but
even if my own father had been a Nazi (he's not; he's an American),
that wouldn't make ME a Nazi. Anybody who stoops to that level of
character assassination simply because they don't like or agree with
(or, more likely, are intimidated by) someone else should be
ostracized in no uncertain terms, in my humble opinion.

Once I learned what an intellectual nit-wit Chris Kulczycki is, I
stopped supporting his business. That was all it took for me, but I
was headed that way, anyway, because I have had several of his parts
break, including his Grand Cru seat post, which has an absolutely
atrocious design. (I returned the poorly designed part with a letter
explaining the obvious design issue, but got no reply, no replacement,
no store credit.) In my opinion, many VO parts are of inferior
"quality" and are really just cheap, crappy knock-offs of hallowed
products. I don't ride junk; in some cases, doing so can get you
killed. It's not worth it, especially when the parts in question are
purveyed by someone with low standards of decency.

Chris,

I don't have any especial preference for VO, and the only item that
I've purchased from them is a decaleur.  They seem, however, to be
sourcing a number of components that are classically styled and aren't
available from other sources (unless you wish to compete with
collectors on eBay for original components at considerable cost).

Is there a particular reason that you don't support VO?  Just curious.

The VO cages are nice-looking, but I wonder if the Nittos might be sturdier 
and so well worth the extra cost. (Haven't had one to compare.) I had a weld 
separate on one of my VO cages after a month or so of riding. I had to 
periodically squeeze it a bit to keep the Kleen Kanteen 27-oz bottle from 
rattling, so that could have over-stressed it, or it could have been a QC 
issue. Sent it back, it was graciously replaced, and the replacement has 
held up so far.

My local shop, Velo Cult of San Diego, is going to see if their usual
distributor for them has any in stock.

Just did a nice loop today along Mulholland and through the Valley,
including some "new" dirt. Nothing major, but it was spectacular. This
was on my Rivendell Roadeo.

Might want to call them before ordering.  They usually have a good
supply of Nitto stuff in stock.  Deal with them on a regular basis and
recommend them.  (They really saved me recently when Schwalbe only
