know if you are interested. Thanks.

I'm afraid that the Bomba and the Hunq are more than a collection of their
angles. I've collected and refurbished a few 80's bikes. I have a 83
Stumpjumper, an 84 Stumpy Sport, an 89 Rockhopper Comp, an 89 Ritchey, and
an 83 Sequoia.

Anyone have a Riv they want to trade?

[RBW] Re: Poor Man's Hunqa/Bomba?

2012-07-22 Thread [email protected]
When I discovered Rivendell's website and Grant's ideas, I was riding an
aluminum frame Trek hybrid. Fortunately for me, from 1995 to 2007 I rode a
steel hybrid so I was able to get it back from my dad and compare the rides
of the two bikes. I definately prefered the steel bike so I began watching
Craigslist for a similar bike, which I found three months later. I had
communicated with Grant about my riding style and needs and his unequivical
recommendation was the Hunqapillar but it's very unlikely I'll ever have
the financial resources for such a nice frame.

The stats of my old steel hybrid worked out like this:

Bike H-T angleS-T angle T-T length Chainstay length BB drop
Fork rake
Hunq7272
58.44680 50
Hybrid 71.5 73
57.0 4378 40 (currently getting
a 50 mm rake fork installed)

Like the OP, not a precise match but in the same ballpark. This particular
bike is well regarded on bicycling forums for having a nice, smooth ride.
I'm sure it pales to the Hunq with it's high quality tubing and the benefit
of Grant's expertise but it's a pleasant ride nonetheless.

[RBW] Re: Poor Man's Hunqa/Bomba?

2012-07-20 Thread Michael_S
I have a 58.5 cm '87 lugged Stumpjumper that is similar to the Bomba too.
Mine has 70d HA, 73d SA and a custom Pacenti crown 55mm rake fork. It's so
nice riding that it's moved up in my bike collection from it's
original intention as a townie to a rough road/ touring ride. Next on the
agenda is to convert it to 650B once I find a decent wheelset. Pics of the
beauty.

Re: [RBW] Re: Poor Man's Hunqa/Bomba?

2012-07-20 Thread Peter Morgano
I own a pretty nice 56cm MB2 and have to say the real issue is being able
to get the bars up high enough to make it comfy for me, personally. My
wife is 5'9" rides it with the riser stem and portuer bars on it and loves
it though. She said it is like the SUV of bikes with 2" tires on it, haha.

I came to the exact same conclusion. I have a Bridgestone MB-6 and after
studying pics of the Hunq and Bomba I looked at the specs as well.

Here are pics of my MB-6 in a couple of variations. I now have Alba's and a
B-15 with Sackville large and basket up front a love it for around town. So
comfy.
