The new Staff Bikes section is much better than the old one IMHO. The
photos and descriptions are better. Well done and thanks to Dave@Riv for
putting it up again.Jenny's AHH is probably my favorite with
distinctive 2TT and heterogeneous shifting setup.

I agreed with Addison the Legolas bike was before my time and I wish they
still had it. My next bike would have to be a custom Legolasish 650b go
fast bike.

One thing that is not mention about the staff bikes is that all the lovely
workers are constantly just riding on random bikes "hanging" around to run
errands. These can be from the demo bikes on the floor or another coworkers
bike. My bike constantly is taking hostage by Sean who likes that he can
feel like a big kid on an small person bike. Pretty laid back culture.

[RBW] Re: Staff Bikes is back

2013-02-01 Thread Benz, Sunnyvale, CA
I'm not sure it's the price that's keeping the Riv folks from using dynamo
lighting. During the last garage sale, they had a whole bag of new SP
dynamo hubs that were sold for a song ($20 or $25). If any of the Riv folks
had wanted those, I suspect they would have gotten a similarly good price
on them. Not that I think the wholesale price for the SP dynamo hubs are
anywhere close to $20 or $25, but at least those garage sale hubs wouldn't
have appeared at the garage sale.

But it's CA, so don't cha know we have sunshine 18 hours a day with nary a
rain cloud in the sky year round? ;)

But every one has fenders. Prefer them in Minnesota. But unlike many, am

Re: [RBW] Re: Staff Bikes is back

2013-02-01 Thread Bruce Herbitter
My saddles look about the same. With sit bones on that flat "landing area"
at the back of the saddle and a slightly upright posture, there is body
bottom comfort with no "jewel" damage. Think of the upraised pommel on a
horse's saddle. You don't sit on that either.

Yeah, me too, but John is a really laid back rider. And what a great
green his Atlantis is.

John's bike keeps with historical precedent. As with his bike showcased in
the previous Staff Bikes collection, the current one on display sports his
patented family jewels-busting saddle tilt. It gives me the willies just
looking at it. But if it works for him, who am I to begrudge the setup?
