I have a Nitto Moustache bar I can throw in the pile, if that's what
Manny wants. That bar can come with an ITM Eclypse stem if any fits
(I assembled a small collection while finalizing on length); this is
really stiff chromed steel stem although the quill is the standard non-
Nitto Technomic (short) length.

I'll also offer to build wheels if components are available. Probably
not Rich quality, but I've built most of my wheels and a set of
Campagnolo/Aerohead wheels is surviving a 200+ pounder friend without
issue.

Manny...this just sucks on a gigantic proportion. I will add to the list of
people when I say your posts/rides/reports are one of the best inspirations

hearing your bike was gone than if had it been mine.

I would also be willing to loan you the X0-3 I have for sale till you get
the Bleriot back or for as long as you need it. It's a bit bigger, but not
terribly. 55 top tube, 52 seat tube, @765 standover. You would need a
saddle, but otherwise complete. If you need it, say the word.

Oh man, I just saw this thread. Terrible.

I think Manny's Bleriot, in the many ride and camping threads in which
it starred, gave me more vicarious enjoyment than any other bike. Like
all of us, I'll miss it.

I once recovered a stolen bike by seeing it parked in front of a store
(probably an unwitting purchaser), I hope the same good luck for you.

Manny,

I almost feel like I know you because your posts are always so
conversational and full of pictures. Most of my posts are dorky gear
related Qs and comments so you likely don't feel the same towards me.
That's beside the point though. I feel for your loss. Every time I hear
about a stolen or stripped bike, I get a knot in my stomach. I think it's
an empathy pain. I completely understand your statement about feeling
guilty. I'm the same way. "If I had been more diligent" I truly hope
you get your bike back. And that whatever happens you're not stuck on the

[RBW] Re: Stolen Bleriot.

2011-12-12 Thread Manuel Acosta
Oh on a funny note the thief whoever it was when they took the bike
they left a bike there. So after a brief talk with with Target
security I needed to go home. So I strapped my 12-pack ginger ale to
the frame to off I went. To my dismay the bike was as well taken care
of as my sweet bleriot and both of the brakes were broken beyond
repair. Foot brakes are fun when they are your only source of
stopping.

Bike thieves that are caught and convicted should be forced to work in bicycle

2011-12-12 Thread Mike
Manny, that's such a bummer about your bike. You got a great attitude
though which will clearly help you move on. If the bike doesn't find
it's way back to you I hope you're able to get back on the road soon.
And yeah, while it's a bummer it was stolen, like you say, you
definitely got your money's worth out of it. Keep us posted.

[RBW] Re: Stolen Bleriot.

2011-12-12 Thread Manuel Acosta
I write because this is all I can do. For those that were wondering I
locked the bike to itself with a kryptonite lock. While I may have
lost a really great bike. I haven't lost the memories that I've had
with it. I feel more guilty then mad or sad considering that way I got
the bike in the first place. For those that don't know this bike was
bought from a forum member founded on craigslist. The story can be
found on Jim's website:
http://www.cyclofiend.com/cc/2009/cc745-manuelacosta1209.html

Granted this bike went through a lot. I'm still not giving up on
finding it, but I guess thats what happens to bikes. No matter how
meaningful they are or how many great memories you have with your bike
all in all it's just a tool. A thing that helps you get from point a
to point b. Don't get me wrong. I loved my bleriot and believe me it
was well loved. But I can't be caught up being sad. Bikes get stolen.
No matter how many wonderful memories and great stories I've had with
the bike. I just have to move on. Hopefully I can find it. If not,
it's not a total lost. I got some good mileage out of the bike. Tons
of pictures. I'm more upset that I'm not going to be riding as much.
If you see it please let me know. Would love to get this bike back.
I'm fairly confident that I might just get the bike back. Not plenty
of 49 cm 650b teal Bleriots in the Bay Area. I'm pretty sure it will
show up. I've gain a good amount of bike karma for this bike to come
back.
