Don't despair. You really do not need "that much" work to get it to fit onto your bike. I've got a Nitto rack on my Sam, but recently purchased the VO rack because $55 seemed like too good of a deal to pass up. I currently have the VO rack installed on my Surly Steamroller. Now, I did have to grind down the bold underneath the crown about a quarter inch, but it wasn't a big deal. I played with it yesterday and I don't think it's going to work without major finagling. The included bolt that hangs from the brake bolt almost touches the front tire. I should have got the Marks rack but the price was off putting but now I'm out $55 (no returns on VO specials). Oh well live and learn. I agree that the Mark's Rack versatility is a big plus (it can even be installed on the rear of the bike). The VO front rack certainly would work well with a bike that has the appropriate bosses on the forks. The amount of adjustabilty of the VO rack is, however, somewhat limited. There's also an advantage to the Mark's Rack, in my opinion, since Rivendell has made bags that are specifically designed to fit that rack (e.g. Li'l Loafer, Sackville TrunkSack). Since then it has served good time on an Atlantis, a Bleriot , a QB, and a Karate Monkey.. Front and rear. I don't think it's superior at anything. I used p-clamps with my VO rack and mounted it under the crown. The clamps didn't get quite tight enough so I cut strips of rubber as shims. Hey William, If your Ram has the appropriate mid fork braze-ons (I think only the green ones did?), I'd send that rack back to VO and order up a Mark's Rack from Riv http://tinyurl.com/45yjau5 It will fit great. At a min. you need p-clamps because the Ram does not have eyelets on the fork.
