[RBW] Romulus death shake

2021-09-01 Thread Rick Urbanowski
Does anyone else get the frame wobble at high speeds on smooth surfaces
with their Romulus? I only get it if I try to go no hands. And even the
smallest amount of pressure on one of the grips will stop it.

[RBW] Romulus rear derailleur hanger

2018-05-18 Thread Joe Bernard
It sounds like somebody stripped the original threaded hole, then installed
something in it to screw the derailer into. Definitely a repair.

[RBW] Romulus rear derailleur hanger

2018-05-18 Thread Roadie1432
I am trying to get my red, S&S coupler-equipped Romulus on the road again. I
have posted here before, looking for decals for it, (no luck).

The problem is that the chain hits the derailleur hanger when it is on the
smallest cog. (9 speed). I looked at it and there is a metal, hex head bushing
installed in the hanger with the hex inboard. The derailleur is screwed into
this bushing. Is this the standard set up for a Romulus or is this a repair?
The hanger is straight and the drop outs are aligned. Thanks for any help.

[RBW] Romulus refurbished as 650b

2016-03-24 Thread WETH

I blame Tony DeFilippo; he emailed me and several other area Rivendell
aficionados last June about a Romulus frameset that his Bike co-op had for
sale. The size was either a 59 or 61, and the frame was in rough shape. Rust
had pitted the frame in several places. Not being in the market for another
bike, I thanked Tony but denied interest. However, I couldn't get the forlorn
looking Romulus out of my mind. The words forlorn and Romulus do not belong
together! After contacting the co-op manager, I went to see the bike and, of
course, bought it! I will digress and divulge that I own two dogs both of whom
we adopted from a dog rescue program at a prison.

Not being in the market for a bike, I wondered what to do with the rescued
Romulus. The rust concerned me; I sanded down the egregious cancers and called
Keven at RBW. We talked through the merits and philosophy of beausage. I like
beausage but prefer to be the one who inflicts the wounds. Keven kindly told
me whatever I did to safeguard the headbadge as those were irreplaceable now.
Slowly I formed a plan to resurrect the Romulus as a 650b commuter. (I had
recently unconverted my Riv Road Standard back to 700c. ). I delivered the
Romulus to a local automotive body shop for powdercoating in Ford Blue. I feel
Romulus would have driven a Ford! I then hand painted the head tube in a cream
and reapplied the badge and the new decals Keven sent.

If you've read this far you deserve some photos of the project from start to
finish: https://flickr.com/photos/86975051@N08/sets/72157654006187120

After a long ride today I am smitten; I am not sure smitten and Romulus go
together either. It's a bromance! I didn't know what to expect but I really
enjoy the ride!

Of course now I have n+1 too many bikes...
Thanks for all the inspiration and know-how so generously provided by so many
in this group! And thanks Tony! I owe you...

Safe cycling wishes,
Erl

The SOMA San Marcos seems a good stand-in for the Romulus..the first batch were
even the same color! You'll want to check the sizing chart at rivbike.com,
though..they're sized differently so you'll be riding a smaller-number frame.

[RBW] Romulus geometry chart?

I've searched the archives and Rivendell's site with no luck. Anyone have a
geometry chart for the Romulus?
Thanks,

[RBW] Romulus 59 CM - BicycleR Evolution Trailer - Extras O' plenty

2010-04-05 Thread [email protected]

Its on the Seattle CL site.
But that sharp bike is in Portland right now although I will be up
north again this week
and it deserves the widest audience possible.

Beth H. has not seen this ride in person, but I would like to thank
her for some guidance she gave over the phone.

So would someone please take advantage of the fact that I bought a
frame set AT LEAST 2 cm too damn large.
And who wants to do that on the acquisition of a rivendell.

Why the is rest included, because the next one may very well be a
track bike.

The absence of the seat post and saddle makes me wonder, too. Were they
removed to prevent theft of the saddle while the bike was locked up
somewhere? How else do you get a fully equipped bike minus seat post
and saddle?

[RBW] Romulus for sale on Minneapolis Craigslist - a little suspicious?

2009-12-06 Thread Dan Abelson
http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/bik/1497663434.html

I saw this Romulus for sale on Minneapolis craigslist. It seems a bit
suspicious considering the low price and the fact the seller does not even
seem to know the size or based on his post much about bikes at all. I am
wondering if this bike is stolen.

[RBW] romulus headset question

2009-11-17 Thread Bruce
I'm partial to Chris King's 2 nut style (have one on a Riv). If you want a
decent one at a much more affordable price, I've seen the Ritchey Logic (1"
threaded) for about $20 online. The ultegra unit that came on the Ram is out
of production iirc, or I would recommend it as well.

[RBW] romulus question

2009-11-16 Thread Seth Vidal

What's the inside diameter of the head tube on a romulus? and the fork crown?

I will need to get a headset for a rom soonish and i couldn't find
this information anywhere on the rbw site or cyclofiend's.

I can just measure it, but I'd really like to know.

[RBW] romulus on rivbike.com

There's a complete new romulus for sale on rivbike.com - I didn't know
there were any "new" romuluses left.

Seems like a pretty good deal for a new romulus to me.

[RBW] Romulus in Minneapolis?

2009-07-21 Thread EricP

Noticed a Romulus both on my way into work and on the way home
yesterday. In the afternoon the owner was riding along old Main.
Anyone on this list? Just haven't seen that one before.

I'm the person who said "nice Romulus" while driving by in the
morning.

[RBW] Romulus rack suggestions

2009-06-24 Thread nathan spindel

Soon I'll be doing a week long tour on a 57cm Romulus. I'm trying to
decide which racks (and panniers) to go for. I haven't calculated how
much weight I'll be carrying, but it'll probably be no more than 30
pounds in back (in panniers; tent, food, clothes, toiletries) and
sleeping bag / misc. in the front? I'm guessing the Romulus is not
intended for heavy front loads, but I could be wrong.

I'm leaning towards a Mark's Rack or VO Randonneur in front and a
Tubus Luna in back (I dig the Luna's minimal design). Or possibly a
Tubus Cosmo or a Nitto Big Back Rack? What would you suggest?

Thanks,
Nathan

[RBW] Romulus sighting near Mountain View, CA

2009-05-06 Thread Gino Zahnd
I'd just gotten off the early flight from Seattle, headed to my office in
Mountain View, getting off 101 onto Moffett Blvd. and saw a fella on a
fenderless Rom. Can I put a name with a face?

Also, Seattle is filled with Rivendells and other nice steel bikes (as
always).
