[RBW] WTB: crankarms or crankset 170mm with 110 / 74 BCD - Sugino, Specialized "Flags", Velo Orange, or anything silver
And I’ve got crankarms in the mail from Justin! Thanks for the suggestions and help. I’ll report back if I can feel a difference and if it helps with knee pain. Stretching and some PT exercises in the meantime. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Here's the XD600. Also available on the Amazon if that's your thing. https://www.modernbike.com/sugino-152-mm-cranksets -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Yes I'm the short cranks guy around here and I think you ALL are pushing cranks way too long unless you're on a singlespeed trying to climb Mt. Diablo which...why would you do that?? I don't have any in the stash to sell, but I recommend looking for shorter than 170 to solve your knee issues. At 5'-7" (short legs, long torso) I use 155 and 152 on regular bikes, 145 on my e-assist Clem. You can find Sugino 165 lots of places, and I've also found an XD600 in 152cm. If you want to spend $50 and can live with 130/74 BCD rings to experiment, search Origin8 cranks that come in a bunch of lengths starting at 145mm. Save the knees, ride shorty! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Summary: Looking to experiment with shorter crankarms to see if it helps with some knee pain. I'd like to stick to Sugino XD2 / XD600 compatible crankarms so they'll be interchangeable with my other cranksets and chainrings. Details: My legs are short relative to my upper body, and one leg is shorter than the other. Two of my bikes have 175mm crank arms (Hillborne 56cm and Cheviot 60cm), one has 172.5mm (Rosco Baby medium). I know it'll be hard to tell much of a difference with the small change, but I've been having some knee pain while riding and this is my next component to try adjusting to see if it helps. My legs are different lengths (right is 11mm longer than left) according to x-rays taken when I needed knee surgery about 6 years ago. I've seen that difference called measurable leg length discrepancy (mlld). Apparently this is quite hard to measure (even with x-rays where they measure the bone lengths and add up the different), and it's different from functional leg length since our soft tissue makes up some of the difference. I use an extra shoe insole insert on the left to make up some of the difference, but it's maybe 2mm taller which isn't much. I know it's a long shot that this would be my fix, but I'm also just curious to try shorter crankarms to see if it gives me a better ride separate from the knee pain and leg length difference. Options I've found include the Sugino sets above, Specialized "Flag" or 99 or Strongarm cranks, some VO cranksets and arms, and I'm sure there are others. I'm in the SF Bay Area and would be happy to pick up from Sonoma / Napa area to Oakland and anywhere in between. Otherwise, I'd pay for shipping. Joe Benard and I may have talked about this a while ago but I think I dropped the ball and didn't follow up?
