Re: [RBW] my joe appaloosa setup
I really like the mondials. These are the 700c x 47, but to my eye (haven't measured) they seem narrower than the 700c x 45 bitumens that came with the bike. I've been riding these mondials for a couple years, I think. I don't put in that many miles, but they have barely worn. I get flats with these, but not as many as with other tires (smart sams, others). I tend to ride in areas with thorns. One time I had switched to another pair of tires (not schwalbe) and was going down my home hill. The light turned red, and I discovered that I was not going to be able to stop before the light. The tires I was riding were just not as sticky as my mondials. I had to make an emergency right at the light to avoid going into the intersection. I got rid of those tires and went back to the mondials. It was a very good reminder that not all tires perform the same and that it's best to go slow on unfamiliar tires. Re: [RBW] my joe appaloosa setup
It's probably because I came off jones bar to the chocomoose, but the chocomoose seemed too narrow to me. This jones bar is the extrawide version, and I've thought about cutting it down. So far the extra inches haven't been a bother, but really I don't use the ends of the bar hardly ever. The bell is a spur cycle bell, and the grips are spur cycle grip rings. (google either of those to find) The bell really is on the verge, if not past, of being too annoying. I don't ring it much, but it's pretty. [RBW] my joe appaloosa setup
Very nice Patrick. I like the way your Joe is evolving. I'm seeing a lot of smart and fun touches. Zip tie-ing the saddle security to the seat post. Fun pink tape-ing the basket to the rack. The Chocomoose bar design always struck me as somewhat "Jonesy". Not surprised to see one show up on an Appaloosa. Seeing it on yours, and comparing it to the Chocomoose on mine, the differences stand out. Clearly it's wider and the grips don't "come back" as much as the Choco's. The Jones must be very stable. I love the Choco for many reasons, but most of all I appreciate how it is not quite so wide yet it performs like a wide bar. I store my bikes in my basement. To go out I need to pass them through a narrow door. The one bike that I have full size Boscoe's on is a pita to get out! The Choco's not so much. Still, at some point it would be fun to try the Jones bar. Lastly, that bell is pretty cool. What is it and how do you like it? [RBW] my joe appaloosa setup
I've put together an album with a lot of tedious details about how I've configured my joe appaloosa, including: * surly front rack * jones loop h-bar * interesting rear light mounting https://flic.kr/s/aHskyUyBr3 enjoy :) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
