Au contraire, Pierre! What about laterally stiff and vertically compliant? Must be the shoes!! I'll also mention that I find Patagonia Boaris shoes with a firm Vibram sole to be excellent for unclipped in pedaling. They work well for walking/hiking application as well. Kind of loud color schemes tho. The simple point being that if they want to market their product to cyclists, "Pedal Flex" is not an instantly appealing name. Their marketing department may not understand their target market very well, "flex" commonly being considered a bad thing by the majority of serious cyclists. If people have to watch a video to understand what the name means, the name was not well chosen.
