This is still available and now they are only asking $2000 from over $3000 to
start. What a beautiful build.

The frame was made in the transitional years after Joe Stark and Curt
Goodrich stopped building, and when Grant was trying on different builders
for size. Richard Sachs built three Rivendell customs, of which this is
 frame number two (RS2).
If it fits you or someone you care about, would be a GREAT road bike.
Classic road geometry, fits a 32mm. I always kept bugging her to do a 650B
conversion on it, as I think it begs for one! Classic garage queen, she
rides her MTB and now her Salsa XC bike a lot more. This one has had
probably less than 50 miles since purchasing the Salsa in 2010.
 Unmentioned
is that it also has a TA Zephyr triple crankset, the best crankset ever
made according to some highly biased people.

They are flexible on price, so don't let the asking price scare you
off. They're hoping for an off-shore collector type with petro-dollars to
burn that will swoop in and grab it. If that's not you, drop 'em a line

Pictured from a previous owner, so not as currently built. I think I am
either the 3rd or 4th owner, maybe further down the line. Frame was
re-painted to its current color back around 2006...believe original color
was similar to RS2.

Specs as follows:

Headset Dura Ace
Stem: Nitto 10cm lugged (paint to match head tube)
Seat Tube: 56cm (C-T)
Seat tube angle: 73.00 deg
Horizontal TT length: 55.00cm (C-C)

Head tube angle: 73.00 deg
Chainstay: 42.0 to 44 cm (horizontal dropout)
BB Drop: 7.5cm
Front Center: 58.5 cm
Head tube ext: 2cm
Stand over with Conti 28c on Velocity Aerohead rim: 80cm

Re: [RBW] Re: PSA: Richard Sachs(!) Rivendell on CL

2017-08-12 Thread Taz Taylor
Having sold 3 Richard Sachs frames (and traded another), I'm inclined to
agree with Doug and Ryan. Very pretty frame but still only a Richie
brazed Riv custom. Curt and Mark also extremely nice frames.

This is my size - I recently had a chance to pick up a newer Sachs for
$1700 - and I would say that's probably about the value of this bike. The
parts are decent but nothing special. If I were to buy, I'd ask the seller
to strip to frame/fork/headset before shipping.

Re: [RBW] Re: PSA: Richard Sachs(!) Rivendell on CL

2017-08-11 Thread Christopher Murray
I think this is a pretty special bike and probably worth the asking price. How
long it would take to sell at that price is anyone's guess but I think it would
eventually sell. I can't imagine sellling it for less than $3500 if it was
mine. We are talking about Richard Sachs... THE Richard Sachs.

Hopefully someone buys it and rides the heck out of it.

Cheers!

Yes, this is what I was alluding to in my earlier comment. I don't think there

Re: [RBW] Re: PSA: Richard Sachs(!) Rivendell on CL

2017-08-11 Thread Doug Van Cleve
It is a neat frame and an interesting part of Rivendell custom history. My
issue is that it is not better in any way than a Joe Starck, Curt Goodrich
or Mark Nobilette built custom. It is not a Sachs, I would bet the
geometry is completely GP, but it's about double the going rate because RS
built it. Super cool for the right buyer, I guess...

I'm just happy my sharing the listing has generated a LOT of discussion!
In case you all are wondering, there is at least ONE person who might fit
the bike, can appreciate it, and is close enough to actually go for a test
ride: ME.

I am about 5'9", ride a 55 Hillborne daily, and also have a "vintage" 54cm
Cannondale R400.

But, of course, the price is too high for me. My excuse is that I already
have those two other bikes, and prefer to be able to use 38mm tires.

Dude, I just bought a Clem. There's no way that immaculate custom Riv/Sachs

Re: [RBW] Re: PSA: Richard Sachs(!) Rivendell on CL

2017-08-10 Thread Joe Bernard
One thing to remember is it's a full custom, so the original buyer was involved
in the design, too. Grant is pretty strict about using the customer's expressed
style of riding to create his vision of how that will look. I would be
surprised if e-richie had any more input in the design than Starck and Goodrich
did for their builds atmo.

Bill, my hunch is that it is that Grant and e-RICHIE came up with what they
both agreed on would be a great bike.
I can't imagine either of those individuals doing something they didn't
believe in!
Agreed on the international exposure, but I think they want local cash
sale. That obviously limits the market, but one can hope!
