Re: [RBW] Re: WTB: Nitto longboy long stay rack
I bought one. If you add in a strap (or 10 Ivos) you can get a 10% discount with the Dec10 code. Re: [RBW] Re: WTB: Nitto longboy long stay rack
Ah, I see. Thanks for the explanation. I've never dealt with one of these personally, but what about attaching the rear rack stays to the rail eyelet of the rack? (I've very curious about this because I was considering using a pletscher on a joe appaloosa, and I like bigger tires, too.) Re: [RBW] Re: WTB: Nitto longboy long stay rack
I had a similar problem fitting a Nitto large rear rack over a 50mm tire with fenders on my Bombadil. To gain the extra space, I made some little extenders out of steel from a toeclip. The rack clears the fender now, but I suspect that I've compromised my load carrying capacity. The tab: http://faculty.cord.edu/sprunger/bikes/bombadil/rackextension.JPG In context: http://faculty.cord.edu/sprunger/bikes/bombadil/bomb-513.jpg I do not currently have or plan to have fenders on the Cheviot, so I'm hopeful that the longboy will have enough lift to clear a big tire. You can kind of see the issue here, if you enlarge the picture: http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/r15tail.htm Basically, the rear struts are mounted too far to the inside, which I hadn't really noticed before ordering it. Come to think of it, I don't think I've seen any photos of this rack used with fenders. I think I can gain enough space by drilling out the rivets and relocating the stays to the outside. I'm going to wait until my fenders get here before I try, though. Not a big deal. As I said, I bought this rack to experiment with and modify anyway. I had originally hoped to change the way the struts attach at the *bottom*, in order to change the geometry and shift the deck forward, to take advantage of the long stays, rather than sit directly above the rear axle. I haven't called RBWHQ to ask, but I'll bet that the Longboy eventually gets re-stocked. Too many long bikes now, not to have it available, the hard work of designing and prototyping it is already done, and it still shows up in the Rear Racks diagram on the website: http://www.rivbike.com/Racks-s/114.htm -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] Re: WTB: Nitto longboy long stay rack
How do you mean the pletscher doesn't fit on the clem? What's the problem? Photos? I must confess that I got the last longboy. I saw that there were only 2 in stock, and then 1, so I grabbed it almost 2 weeks ago. I pre-ordered a joe appaloosa and I was worried about using a "standard" rack (I have many cheap aluminum racks in my bin) on it, given the long chainstays. I assume that they'll be ordering more longboys, but who knows when they'll show up? I didn't want to risk being rackless when I got my spiffy new ride.
