Re: [RBW] What fenders for Clem?

Oh, shoot, now I see that these are aluminum and you want plastic. Anyway,
Planet bike sells plastic fenders in 26" too. Sorry for the link that
doesn't suit your needs.

2016-04-13 Thread WETH
Joe,
I have been happy with the performance of the Planet Bike fenders I have on
my 26" wheel Surly LHT. I have a different model than these I am linking
to, as I run 26x2.1 on the Surly.

These seem like they might fit your needs. Universal appears to be out of
the silver, but I am sure you could find them somewhere else if you didn't
want black.
Good luck,
Erl

I meant the 26" X 60 mm PB fenders, of course.

Re: [RBW] What fenders for Clem?

2016-04-13 Thread Patrick Moore
I get it. I should think that 700C 45 or 50 mm SKSs will work. Again, I've
used them on 26" road bikes with less distance, I'm sure, between the crown
and bridge and axles, than has the Clem. There was slight distortion at the
bridge and crown, but not enough to affect use or, really, the look, and
again, the Clem ought to allow wider arches.

Or, simply use the 60 mm ones that Planet Bike sells -- they should fit the
Clem fine. I used 50 mm Honjos with 22 mm tires on the '03; it didn't look
*that* odd, and 50 mm fenders looked fine with 32 mm tires -- that's what
I'm going to install in place of the 35s covering the 29 mm Elk Passes. I
should think 60s with 38s would be fine.

At any rate, I'd use something wider than 35s for 1.5" tires; at least 45
mm wide.

Continental 1.5 slicks. I need plastic fenders with the breakaway feature on
the front..I don't trust solid-mount metal fenders, nor do I like the pinging
noise from pebbles.

Re: [RBW] What fenders for Clem?

2016-04-13 Thread Patrick Moore
What tires are you using? I found Berthouds in 559 X 50 mm size. Velo
Orange has aluminum fenders in a 559 X 60, IIRC.

And, I've successfully installed SKS and Planet Bike 700C fenders, 35 mm
wide, on my 26"-wheeled road frames. I hope to install the Berthouds
(again, 50 mm) on the '03, but I'll have to dimple the fenders where they
fit between stays and crown.
