Dang Rex...I'd say that's pretty clean! I'm going to tackle this today or
tomorrow.

I DID have a bit of a scary episode with my shellac. I wanted to check how
much I had and give it a stir, and when I barely applied pressure to the
lid with my opener it exploded off the can with a huge BOOM! I'm very lucky
I had my hand over the can to stop it, as my face was directly over the
can. It hit my palm with enough force to hurt and leave a mark. I've gone
through maybe 6-7 small cans of Zinzer over the last 5 years and never had
one do that. It's always stored in a cabinet in the house to avoid the
crazy temp swings in the garage. Not sure why/how this one had built up so
much internal pressure, but I'm going to treat all future cans as volatile.
Safety first kids.

I have the same basic setup... non aero levers on mustache bars. The
outcome of my wrapping might not be as clean as you'd like, but I used two
cheaters:

I've gone under the clamp before as well, so I can say that does work, but
I wasn't that careful this time.

Re: [RBW] Your method of going around brake levers with cloth bar tape?

2013-06-09 Thread PATRICK MOORE
IIRC, Grant had an article in a long ago RR about taping bars.

I use a separate 3" strip around each lever and behind the bar -- hold it
on with a spot of glue or something -- and then wind tape around the lever
body from the bottom -- and hope that the roll is long enough. But I rarely
use cloth tape.
