My first thought was Vickers MkVI light tank but too few road wheels for
that.

Thank you. It is attachment chain, with track pads (aka 'grousers')
designed by me and injection molded by Stephen Morgret at
http://www.strikemodels.com/.

He's an occasional visitor to these forums and a good guy. Stephen also
helped me to import a bunch of that attachment chain from China. The plan
was to produce 20-30 or these track sets for sale, but life intervened. It
may still happen.

I did make an important step forward on the mystery vehicle regarding the
attachment chain tracks. I put a small return roller just before the drive
sprocket. It helps keep the chain centered on the sprocket.

Wiesel? Really like the tracks - can't tell if they're commercial items or
attachment chain with really nifty home made pads.

Re: [TANKS] Raspberry Pi + Linux + Xbox360 = new prototype vehicle

2018-04-03 Thread Doug Conn
Thanks, Frank.

>> What's the effective range of the Bluetooth controller?
I was amazed how far it worked. I have a small yard, so I couldn't do a
definitive test. At most, I was probably 40m away and it still worked fine.

>> Also like the use of the Maestro to offload servo and ESC control
I tried generating servo signals via software (under Windows IoT, though).
The results were not stable enough to use. I had already written a Maestro
driver for Windows IoT, so it was easy enough to port that over to Linux. I
plan to use a stepper motor for turret control, so I'll still need to
generate those control signals on the CPU.

>> "Media error: Format(s) not supported or source(s) not found"
That's weird. Anybody else getting this error ? My plan is to consolidate
all my various tank/robot/hardware/software stuff onto that WordPress site.
I'm not sure how far to go though.

Hello -

I've been working on a new vehicle for a long, long time ! I finally have the
control system and a prototype chassis running. It's a small hull with an
on-board Raspberry Pi running Ubuntu Mate and driven with an XBox360 Bluetooth
controller.

Check it out here:

Thanks,
Doug

Nice work, Doug. What's the effective range of the Bluetooth controller?
Also like the use of the Maestro to offload servo and ESC control. The
hobby electronics world has come a long way since T001 was built.
