Hi all:
I have an Ubuntu 8.10 system with rdiff v1.1.16 installed. Using the
recipe on the wiki:
http://wiki.rdiff-backup.org/wiki/index.php/Installations#Concurrent_installation_of_different_versions_of_rdiff-backup
and making the appropriate changes to the version number, I got an error

I've had similar experiences lately. Rdiff will crash (with CRC check
errors) but I can rsync the data just fine. I was also curious as to the
validity of the standard interpretation of 'flaky hardware' = CRC check
errors if another process (rsync - really the same process wrapped in

Looks like I'm still missing something. Any further ideas?
Thanks again,

Hello all:
I'm attempting a concurrent installation of v1.2.8 over the system
default of v1.1.16. When I run 'rdiff-backup-1.2.8 --version' it returns
'rdiff-backup 1.1.16' . I checked my script for the pythonpath and it
does point to the correct build directory for 1.2.8 and the lib and

Hi Bob,
Yes, as Maarten said, a failing CRC
problem that Andrew described as giving a better message in newer
versions.
I hope I gave you enough pointers to work with for now. Please report
back to the list if you have any news.

Hello all:
I have a series of rdiff-backups that run every day to backup 10 remote
sites and total of 14 different servers. It seems that each day, at
least one of the backups fails. I have been working at getting these to
work flawlessly for 6 months, but it seems beyond my grasp. In the last

I'm using rdiff v1.0.4, pushing a backup to the remote server (running
v1.0.5) using the following commands:
rdiff-backup --print-statistics --exclude '**tmp' --exclude '**mp3'
--exclude '**dat' --exclude '**exe' --include
/home/'*'/.profile/Application'*'/Qualcomm --include
.
Current versions of rdiff-backup print a helpful error message in this
situation.

Hello all:
I am having troubles installing v1.0.5 on an old gnu/linux box:
when I run 'python setup.py install', I get the output (below - with
errors). I checked and python seems to be v2.44. I got the same or
similar results trying to install v1.0.4. Any ideas on what is
failing/going wrong?

Thanks to Andrew (who provided the bulk of the information), I have

It details how to do concurrent installations of rdiff-backup, necessary
