Along this same thread, I have a large ground mounted residential system
proposal on hold because homeowner association has requested low reflective
glazing and all black frames on all modules. I have seen a few dark bronze
anodized aluminum frame modules over the years but would like to see a

Glenn and Jeff,
I may be mistaken here (doing mostly the off-grid part of our business), but
I think that Sunpower used to do an all-black module but no longer does.
That is, the frame and face are all black, but the tedlar back is now white.
This changed happened the latter part of last year.
Jeff,
I don't know if it helps, but just this morning I sent this below to some
Southern California solar contractors. Email me if you want the letter.
Good news from a new CALSEIA member, Brad Bartz, ABC Solar. The Palos Verdes

Sanyo HIT's have black frames... most manufacturers use anti-reflective
glass. Maybe a bifacial panel would be a good choice... (Sanyo HIT Double)
Seems like a black background or substrate is a counterproductive idea, as
that would increase cell temps and decrease efficiency... Sometimes
The HIT Dbls are a silver frame and funny enough the new hold down solution
from Unirac has them available only in black.

We have installed systems using many different module brands and sizes, but so
far we have not installed Sunpower modules.
When we checked their web site it appears they only deal with their own
dealers. Since we buy hardware from many different national distributors,

Hi Jeff,
We have sold the quite a few Sunpower 90's. After they became
unavailable, we started purchasing CTI 90's (Carmanah Tech.) made with
the Sunpower cells. Both modules have exceptional performance in high
heat. The efficiency and temperature coefficient is second only to
Sanyo.
Mitsubishi also makes a black framed
module.

Suntech makes has a mono Si module in the 175W range that is available
in an all black configuration. I've used this module. It looks
really nice.

Have these modules worked for you in battery based systems?

Sunpower likes to keep (requires) the 200+ for grid tied applications.
If your battery back project is also grid tied then, yes.
However, the SPR 90¹s would be the ticket for off-grid. They are available
from distributors. I think Carmanah was carrying some, but that was awhile
back.
