[RE-wrenches] FW: Property Taxes -- Solar Energy Systems

Wrenches, Like a few other of the most progressive states in terms of renewables, New Mexico has an involved state government. Ryan Helton of our state's Energy Conservation and Management Division (handles RE) sent this request out today. I'm forwarding it to the list because it seems to be a per

Richard, I think you are right, the weakest link in the chain was a compression fitting.  Maybe one that was not properly tightened.   An EMT connector will thread right into a RMC coupling and it doesn't look like it would interfere with the expansion joint motion, so I still think the expans

Kent, I looked at the photo of that expansion coupling and initially thought, "That'll work". But if the conduit was RMC OR IMC all the joints would have been THREADED into couplings, and even if by mistake they were not wrench tight, they would not have pulled apart. Even if strapped too tig

William, Thanks for posting the info on the Target fire. We all need to learn some lessons from it. I'm sure that it is going to lead to changes in our industry. Some things that the report brings to my mind: There will be fire inspectors, electrical inspectors, all kinds of other experts

Since we are talking lay-in lugs, the WEEB-Lug is clearly superior to either the Burndy or Ilsco lugs because it takes 1/4" hardware, has a hex head set screw set in a much more convenient manner and has a bonding plate so that an anodized aluminum surface does not have to be ground off. Not sure I

Wrenches, My client in Southern California wants at least 1 MW PV on each of 2 buildings with very large flat roofs. The problem is the structural engineer says the roofs can only support less than 4 pounds per square foot additional load. Penetrations are a secondary issue, but weight is a d

The DC disco coming off the PV breaker box might be a good idea. With this case showing that. We know that we can open the box and kill all the breakers but few others do or would have the the time and thought to do it in an emergency.. Would it be a 1 armed bandit or would a big dc rated breaker

"For lack of a nail, the war was lost." Thanks for the analysis report, hopefully, we can all benefit from this experience. Attention to detail matters. What impressed me was the "timely" report, barely a month since the incident. Not to say the defense lawyers won't find another paid expert to
