Hi Tom,
I might be missing your question, but I believe that you would couple the
SolarEdge inverter to the AC1 line of the Sunny Island, just like with any
grid tie inverter. In other words, the SolarEdge inverter would tie into
the critical loads panel that is fed by the Sunny Island.

Good catch! They made the same typo in 690.56(A) - referred to 690.31(F),
not (G) - but it was corrected on the the Sept. 16th errata. Bound to
happen when sections are getting shifted around so much. Here's a link to
the nfpa page with the (so far two) errata sheets - there's several in 690

Hi Wrenches,
So I was reading through the handbook today and got confused on the
exception to 690.13 which reads:
690.13(A) Exception: Installations that comply with 690.31(F) shall be
permitted to have the disconnecting means located remote from the point of
entry of the system conductors.

Kirpal,
I reviewed the link; thank you for this referral. I was surprised
by the specified charge settings: while there's no bulk/absorption
setting given, equalize is 2.33 - 2.40 vpc, or 53.5 - 57.6 v on a
48 v bank. This is what I would expect with VRLA batterie
I've got the Amazon Kindle version of the 2014 NEC. So far, I don't
recommend it. You can login from any PC or a tablet/phone with the Kindle
App but the formatting is confusing and I just generally find it hard to
use. Hopefully the publisher will be improving the format.

Hi Kirpal;
I see that the SBS batteries are rated to 1200 cycles to 80% DOD, but I
can't find the warranty on their website. Do you have a link to that?

One option is steel tray batteries. Manufacturers include MK/Deka and
Hawker. We are accepting delivery of 6 of the 1800 a/h Hawkers Friday.
They are 2600 pounds each. We move them with a special narrow pallet jack.

Mac...good morningthat is a big battery bank!We have used the SBS
Batteries for large battery banksThey offer multiple warranty options
including upto 20 years. They are tubular plates with clear outer cases

To clarify, this is for an off-grid application, 4 Sunny Islands, 30kW
generator.

Mac,
Is this for an off grid system? We're doing our first project with a Deka
Unigy II battery system but they are AGM and I believe only good for grid
tied battery backup or applications where you won't have a very deep depth
of discharge:

Consider the HUP Solar One battery, the 125-33. It has 2490 AH at the
20 hr rate. The warranty is for 2100 cycles to 80% DOD. Also most of
the jumpers are included (bus bars within each 12 v group)
We've had nothing but happy customers since we started using the HUPs.

As a side note, if you use the 2YS31 Surrettes, as I did for a single 48V
string about a year ago. You may want to have them shipped from Canada as a
batch. I'm almost certain that my pack of 24 2v cells was a mixture of
manufacture dates, 3 of which were in the "distribution chain" for too lo
We've used these batteries in a couple
of high end off-grid jobs and they work great.
Yes, they are around 280 pounds..but by afternoon, they're
more like 325 ;-)
The last system we installed had 48 of these. And as Tump said,
allow plenty of time
Surrette YS 31s 2400Ahr X 3strings = 7200 2 volt IN plastic containment
vessels. ~280Lbs/per

Does anyone have a diagram on how to AC couple SolarEdge Inverters that use the
DC Optimizers to AC coupling with a Sunny Island like SMA 6048 . John Berdner
started a link quite a while ago that I do not think included a diagram . John
did mention that the SMA had the correct or best Algorithm
Mac, for this type of large system we typically use Surrette/Rolls
2YS31.They are 2430 ah. When we get into battery banks this large we
typically only run two cells deep (front to back) for ease of maintenance.
I hope your customer has some free time on their hands for maintenance.
Remember, Surret
Good point Jason. To clarify this is a 48V system.
Thanks

Not that I have an answer for you, but I'm curious, too. You need to
specify voltage to get a good answer.

Hi wrenches,
I am consulting on a job that requires an 8000 Ahr battery bank. This is
quite a bit beyond my normal battery bank realm. What would you recommend
for this?
Thanks in advance
