I would not go DC for starters. I lived with a DC fridge for years and
would not wish that on anyone in the 21st century. Regular Energy Star
rated models are very close to the Sunfrost energy numbers, but are much
cheaper, are readily available, and can be serviced by regular appliance
search there.

power for their River Haven project which is providing transitional housing for
homeless folks in the Ventura CA area. The site is truly off-grid and currently
uses propane to power three refrigerators
