Tom, Down here a little further south in Florida, many of our clients might actually find that to be a benefit in the summer! Pools get bathwater hot here and nocturnal solar cooling is a hopeless proposition when it's 85F ambient and 95% humidity at night. That said - I totally agree. Bad idea.

See NEC 680.8. From what I have been able to determine, it's completely unworkable to install solar modules over a swimming pool unless you can complete enclose all conductors in raceway, and even then it would be very questionable by AHJs I have asked. I get this question at least once a week in
